I'm just curious if I'm the only one that would rather play PC RPGs than Platform any platform, PS2 through nintendo. I find PC rpgs to be more in depth which I think is better. Sometimes it seems that platform RPGs have too many cinematic scences and not enough game play. Also there the fact that graphics can be a lot better on the PC.

I play all of them
PS One, PS2, PC and Mac PC is my top one though, then Mac My Mac is the more powerful machine, but not too much selection, so the PC has more use for games, my Mac I use for my work. PS2, games have to be exceptional, still play RPG though, not much else. PS1 ditto Lady Zidane

![]() I like both. PC RPGS are more interactive and you can explore more without restrictions. IMO, platform RPG's have better graphics, are easier to get into and are more fun to play. |

Dude, you seriously underestimate the powers of console RPGs. The thing about console RPGs is that they tend to be extremely expensive to produce, and thus, mostly are of a very, very high standard.
As GokuZool pointed out, Final Fantasy X gameplay, in-game cinematic and actual cinematics are extremely high-quality, on a standard-issue machine, graphics so detailed and so smooth that it would take a dedicated gaming machine to even match. Add that to the ability to hook it up to a big-screen TV, home theatre etc.. Ask me this several months ago and I would have said PC RPG without a blink. Now I'm not so sure. Depth? Who says console RPGs arent deep? Console RPGs are incredible at telling damn fine stories, something that PC RPGS tend to lack in all the controls and engines and stats and numbers.. Its really up to personal preference, but I'll cast my vote for my beloved PS2, anyday! And Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance is an action game with statistics, as compared to Diablo rather than BG2:SOA. Enjoy them for what they are, and in my opinion pound for pound console RPGs are every bit as solid as PC games in terms of what they each individually offer the player. Plus, water effects so seamless and pretty as those in BG ![]()

I say: Both!
Look at Morrowind and NWN, examples of PC RPG's. Both are highly moddable and will be able to provide MONTHS of varied gameplay. Of course they will also have a few bugs(Haven't met any myself, yet, though.). For consoles, look at the FF games. Ultimately cool games with a great story and wonderful characters. In my opinion the greatest RPG games ever and only Morrowind is about as good as it. Of course MW is also availiable for the console, but the console version lacks moddability and from what I hear it's a bit more cumbersome. Of course it should be noted that I own 0 consoles ![]() |

They both have their strong points, so it depends on what you're looking for in a game. In BG or NWN, for example, I really appreciate the ability to be anything I want, instead of being told "okay, your name is such-and-such, this is your background and here are your skills and abilities. And you HAVE TO use this weapon".
On platform games, though, the very fact that your character is pre-determined allows the gamemakers to make the story more character-specific. It can allow for a much deeper connection to the characters in the game (provided you LIKE the characters...) A good example that I mentioned elswhere is the game Lunar. Characters come and go from your party based on story needs and you see them interact in ways that really involve you in the story. I haven't experienced the same level of attachment in any PC game. But then again, there is much less replay value in Lunar, because I can't go back and say "hey, this time I'm gonna play a mage". I'm rambling a bit.... Basically, I think PC and console games are quite different, but both worthwhile. And on the topic of the PS2 verion of Baldurs Gate-- it got my wife gaming, so it can't be that bad. Both... Final Fantasy is still on Platform and other stuff like NWN, BG and Diablo are on PC so that's that
