This is sort of intended for Americans. Don't mean to discriminate, but I'm just curious. For college-age students, are you registered to vote? Do you intend to vote in the coming election? If not, why not?
If you're older, how do you feel about voter apathy, especially in young people? Do *you* plan to vote in the next election? If not, why not? [ 02-13-2004, 01:35 PM: Message edited by: Illumina Drathiran'ar ]

Much older than 25, registered Independent, and voting Democrat in the next election (ABB).

30, registered Independent, and realizing my vote in the next election won't mean diddly-squat. First, Bush will win. Second, I live in Illinois which will vote Democratic no matter what. So, no need.

Not a fatalist -- a realist.
![]() For my vote to count, two highly unlikely things would need to happen: 1. Illinois, where Big Labor rules, would vote Republican -- ain't gonna happen. (Note to those who don't grok the reasoning: if the state votes Republican, ALL of the electoral college votes in the state get voted Republican.) 2. Bush would need to be on the verge of losing. It'll be a landslide, and the exercise of picking a Demo candidate is really only masturbatory. Which is why I wanted someone like Dean. He'd still lose, like any of them will, but he'd give the Democratic party one helluva much-needed enema. ![]() |

Well, if the election were held right now, the President would lose (according to polls (though who really believes them)). Course, it's not until November and anything can happen.
I was mostly just chiding, I sorta share the same view, I'm more or less resigned to 4 more years of the current occupant of the White House. Mark |

Of course you realize, Timber, that one vote doesn't make a 'difference' and this sort of collective apathy perpetuates itself... It saddens me, because I can see no clear solution to this.
Especially since the last 'election' proved that the votes didn't mean a damn thing, hm?

I'm college age, not registered and won't vote. Seeing as I'm living in America, I must be similar to 50% of Americans in this regard right?

Well over 50%, Yorick.
And I'm also rather inclined to agree with Night Stalker.
