It now says this path to my destination/prophecy or whatever is now blocked. I cant chat with him anymore, he says "goodbye" and thats it.

Anyone have a clue where i should pick up my main quest thread now ?

This was only the second time i visited him, after delivering that cube to that other guy.

Im a mage and i kill and steal/plunder everything i come across (i use items to unlock or just spells which i had custom made up to 100 pts to unluck chests etc). I've killed lots and lots of store owners after i sold them all my stolen goods and they didnt have any money anymore to give me for my items. I then stole theirs and sold to the next trader and so on.
I've also killed storeowner mages etc to get their items (why buy it when you can steal it ). Hell i've plundered treasuries in vivec (that was great , just need the key from a noble hehehe ) and killed a load of nobles to get the stuff i wanted from them.

However, only once in some kinda stronghold, i killed an npc to see what he had on him, the game told me to reload a saved game coz otherwise after killing this person i'd have to live in a doomed world and no way possible for me to follow the main quest to finish the game. So naturally i did reload the game and left him alive (i always quick safe before killing any person so i can decide to leave them alive or not if they dont have anything special on them). The same happened after i test-killed caius after he told me i was thrown out of the blades. This to see if i would get the same message. Apparently i can still follow the main quest, just my question is where do i pick it up again ?

I'm currently a lvl 13 mage with reputation of 3 and rank 4 or whatever in the mage guild and trying to find my way into talvanni house (forgot the exact spelling but thats the house i wanna join coz they seem hard to get into and kinda seem elite).

Ofcourse i've seen a couple times that my crime had been reported but only for stealing stuff, not for murdering, so then i pay that little bounty of 80 gold max and go on where i left of.

Only thing i can think of was that i made that bloodbath to get rid of the bad people that the legionair in the fort asked me to do. I just attacked the people there, killed all 6 of them (yeah im good ), up till now the best thing i could ever have is my short blade with 10 seconds paralization, its awsome), ran out of town fast to the fort to get my name cleared and get my reward.

Anyway, so what do i do next, i want to have this main quest continuing otherwise i'd be heavily dissapointed. I was having such a great time and on my way to do more quests for my mages guild and discover new territories. The game would feel kinda pointless to me if i'd just had to wander around doing quests etc and never being able to finish the main quest/game. That would really suck and i'd probably just quit the game alltogether.

Also i'm having doubts about quests, i read in a spoiler that someone needed to get a skull from a tomb i've been in already. I had the skull in my inventory and i sold it or threw it away (since i didnt have the quest yet and i wonder off lots of times to explore and find new tombs etc to get my hands on new items etc).
It would kinda suck if i couldnt finish a main quest coz i already cleared it ages before i got the quest. Kinda makes me scared to explore like i always used to do.

Greetz,

Reggie !!!!

don't worry, hon. the one thing you CAN'T do to stay on the main quest, kill that person, you've already dealt with.

go join another house or take up with the fighter's guild. keep exploring and talk to everyone you can. you'll be back onto your main quest line in no time.

there's prolly a house or two you wanna join. been to vivec yet? what about the clammora tong? (my spelling for names in this game is horrific!) they are just as exclusive and difficult to join.

don't change your ways tho. this is one game you CAN do everything you have been doing and still win.

The opening message in this thread is symptomatic of a very common sort of whine I keep seeing and I simply do not get it. We have saved game positions to reload and replay this or that line of steps, plenty of storage for tons of different saves in different places, so we can be alternating two versions of the same game on two separate lines based on a branch point. The first rule of gaming in any environment similar to Elder Scrolls is saving often.

So when I see all this whining and no mention of having replayed this or that line all the way back to (whenever), I just don't get it; these people (remember, I'm not picking on Reggie particularly, just using him/her as an example of a class of would- be gamer who in my opinion doesn't seem to be trying very hard), they don't make saves?

I used to think like that too, Kiwi. But then I started playing with the consequences of my actions on some games, and I have to say even if they become a bigger pain in the ass in some ways, it makes them more enjoyable. Oh, I DO rotate saves, and I have them labeled say for instance before joining a guild or a house, I make a save named " bout to join ". Or I do the same before I do something I may regret later if I feel it warrants it. But for the most part I keep on it and on it. It's kind of hard to really role-play your character if you just always keep in mind that loading a previous save will fix your bad screw ups. When I used to play pen & paper rpg's our GM wouldn't give us a chance to return in time if we messed up badly. And neither did I give that chance to players when I was the GM. And some good PC RPG's beg for that sort of treatment. So if someone chooses to fully play a character even with all the mistakes big or small, and tries to find a way to fix it, all I will do is congratulate him or her .

Reggie you choose a path, even if that road can make the main quest of the game difficult to solve there is no reason to quit playing that way or to start over, for as long that you load to a game saved before getting the message of "you have make the prophesy impossible to fulfill, you can load a previous save or keep living in this doomed world" you will be able to solve the main quest.

While there are games so linear in nature that most mistakes take you to dead ends on the final solution, there are also games like Morrowind, when you are given this flexibility mistakes are among the best parts of the game, even if they can be a bit frustrating in the beginning they can also trigger the most memorable moments on the game, same with characters, most of the times its the clumsy thief that cant open a lock even if he have key more fun than one that never fails.

Kiwi that's such load of bullshit, im sorry to say.

I must be saving about every 5 ( or less) mins coz i keep having desktop crashes out of nowhere. Besides, i always safe lots and lots of times with all games i play with coz i simply dont wanna have to redo the whole thing again.

Then another thing, how on earth do i know which guy i robbed or killed from the over 100 people i must have killed or robbed while playing the game. Reload every single saved game i have and then find my way back to balmo to visit caius ? That would take me a week at least alone to find that 1 save. Then once i have found it it would take me days again to go find all the dungeons and items i found after that safe, remember all the people i talked with, remember all trainings and custom spells i had made and bought etc etc.

This game is huge and deep and so many npc's to talk with and so many areas to explore. Ofcourse i safe a shitload coz otherwise i'd be totally lost which parts i already did or explored etc. Its a game you GOTTA safe alot. It usually takes me a whole day to simply do 1 main quest from my guild or blades coz i keep wondering off or picking up new quests along the way which keep me busy.

You'r post is really an example of 'posting without thinking to much'.

How on earth could i be whining if i just ask a simple question about where to pick up the main plot ? I know from previews and interviews that you can kill everyone except 1 npc to keep the main plot going. My question only is where do i pick this up again.
I came across another blade and he told me to make amends just its ages ago that that story about making amends was told to me so i simply forgot where and who i should make amends to.

If i would be whining about anything then its about my overly frequent deskstop crashes which i havent while its totally annoying.

Greetz,

Reggie

Yep Yack. Well later on in the game i came across another blade saying sorry he couldnt train me or help me and that i should make amends first.

Ofcourse i forgot about this amends . Someone in usenet mentioned the name of Mehra Milo in vivec.

Ill just go to vivec then. Been there for quite a while earlier already and once yer used to how the maze works its not that easy to get lost so it shouldnt take me to long to find that person to see what the amends were about. To bad once im in vivec again ill probably be wondering off for hours to see where i can get what loot duh hehehe ). Thats usually how it goes hehehe.

Yes veselle i've been in vivec, up till now thats one of the more important places i've been to where you can get lotsa stuff and info or join houses etc .

Well the Tong guild/house i dont like to join coz they cant stand outlanders grrrrr. Its a game but they still piss me off being so discriminating to my high elf .

Thought about joining the Hlaalu but they arent really a true mages house (im a mage) and Telvaani seemed a true mages house so i wanna join those some time when i take the time to find how to enter them in vivec.

Been thinking bout joining the Emperial cult but ah bah all that info you get thrown at you. Im not sure stilll if Emperial cult is a house or a faction or maybe faction and house are both te same etc etc and how cool they are if i join them . I wanna be in the coolest house/faction and see what powers it gives me once im in. Also Telvaani seems to climb up the ladder but taking out competitors. Seems kinda cool ). None of that chit chat, if you dont like them just kill them hehehe.

Reggie,

Some different philosophies, you and I. I play like it's life, which it isn't, but "as if," which includes no "do-overs" for stupid decisions that I make.

My RPG discipline says if I die because I was being a twinky, then I start over. No reload save games and all that bosh because I was being an idiot (according to my self-imposed gaming style) and didn't like the consequences of the same.

So, I have to say with modest glee, from my playing perspective, that I'm glad to see you're semi-screwed. Actions have consequences and I enjoy it when people suffer for "bad" actions.

I am glad though, that you have enough fore-thought to make saves B4 you continue on your socio-pathic killing spree. It's one thing to be a sociopath in a game, but another to be a stupid person in real life.

ALSO, PLEASE don't take it that I think your way is inferior. It's your way and it's YOUR GAME EXPERIENCE.

My way doesn't work for a lot of people. What gives me the jollies doesn't work for most people. I'd hazard to guess that you'd probably think my way was insufferably dull, impossibly boy-scoutish and plodding. But it turns my crank.

hmmm.
i enjoy finding out how everyone plays their games. there's so many ways to play. my way is probly horribly boring to others, but i enjoy playing thiefsie types, who sneak around and poke around other folk's belongings.

i don't usually ever steal stuff, except quest items and gold. LOL! i just realized how hilarious that sounds. a thief with standards.

but i get the MOST fun from poking into every nook and cranny in every house and town in the world and just finding out what's there. if it's a tomb that goes waaay down into the earth or if it's a castle with ramparts that stretch to the clouds.

i love the exploring. well, and the monster bashing. i like seeing how close i can cut it when i'm fighting. i don't like to have tons of stuff either. i travel light and wear as little as possible.

i like to take as many quests as i can, and settle all of them, without messing with anyone, if possible. i have standards and at times will stretch them, but only if absolutely necessary. i prefer to say no if its too horrific. but i dislike saying no, too.

so, i guess that makes me officially messed up, too, huh?
