What really helped me was summonened monsters and elementals. I had Edwin in my party and he used wand of monster summoning. 6 gnolls were summonened and Jaheira summonened a fire elemental. I had someone invisible scout out the area so I knew where all the beholders were. Then I led the summons to em. A bunch of of the gauths die and the others weakened. Then I mop up.

how'd you summon 6 gnolls and an elemental? Isn't 5 summoned creatures the cap?
