Wanted to start a post in case there wasn't one already, to show what characters you use in the game. I use 6 created for myself, i can control their development instead of using in-game characters who just are not what i like. SO here are my 6 characters and why i created them. I brought them from BG1.
1) Paladin. Of course, what else would i want? And what else is gonna wield that great Holy Avenger sword? LOL. Now, which kit to choose. I was thinking Cavalier, but There really isn't alot of demons and dragons in BG2 that i heard, so I picked the Undead Hunter, It ROCKS! There are a zillion undead in BG2, so what is better than a Undead Hunter Paladin who can't be drained taking the punches from vampires wielding his Holy Avenger sword. STR 13 DEX 18 CON 19 (bg1 book) INT 7 WIS 18 CHAR 19 (bg1 book) 2) Cleric I wanted a warrior cleric, so I made up a dual class fighter/cleric. good HP. I Made the cleric a Bezerker/cleric. I Grandmastered him in a warhammer, and a couple slots to weapon/shield proficiency, with left over slots used with mace. He's not good with missle weapons, but i use him for upfront fighting. So my Warrior cleric goes into battle with armor/shield/war hammer can zerk and with GM warhammer proficiency and his spells (draw on holy might, etc) and his amulet that prevents drain, he can level undead and golems in seconds. 3) Mage. Used a basic fighter/mage dual class. I Grandmastered him with the use of a sling, couple points to a dagger. So he can sit back and cast spells, and with normal combat uses his sling to knock down opponents. Mostly he is used for knocking down enemy mage protection spells. 4) Thief. Normal fighter/thief dual class human ( I like humans) I Grandmastered my thief in short sword (for backstabbing) and crossbow (some good xbows in the game) So he works well as a archer or a fighter in combat. I killed a mindflayer with 106 damage backstab one time WHOOHOOOOO! 5) Archer. I have a fighter as my archer, I didn't go the ranger way. My fighter is Grandmaster with the bow and almost with the longsword (some great bows and longswords ingame) so hes great either as a archer or a upfront fighter. And as a fighter can wear full plate and great armor instead of regular ranger leather. 6) Lastly i made up a druid. Basic human dual class fighter/druid. Grandmastered him also in the sling and a few points to staffwork. My druid is basically a monster conjurer/healer. He throws fire elementals and summoned creatures into combat while using his sling safetly in the back. Problem was, I reached level 14 extremely fast with him, even before the Underdark world, so I retired him and brought in a Kensai warrior to get some training up. My 6 basic characters. From BG1, my archer has 19 str, my thief 19 dex, my mage 19 int, and my paladin has 19 con and 19 charisma. I gave my Paladin 13 strength and 18 wisdom instead of the other way around, because i know i can get a STR boosting item (gauntlet or belt) to get him to 18/00 or above, but there just isn't alot of WIS boosting items (and the extra resist helps). He had a tough time until he could get the giant belt at the shop, his 13 STR didn't alow him to use his 2 handed weapons (you need 14 STR for them) I kept all hp raises on the first try, be they 2 hp gained or 14. I didn't try and max out my hp during leveling, i just let it progress naturally. My paladin has about 115 hpish, if you try and max them you can get up to 150, in that area. All my characters are raised normally, I don't use any cheat programs to adjust anything. Everything true and fun. SO there you go, my 6 basic characters. Any one else have some nifty combos? |

Last time through:
Me Kensai/Mage Korgan (Berserker) Keldorn (Paladin) Viconia (Cleric) Valygar (Stalker) Imoen (Mage) If I played with all six chars: Male -- Human -- Monk -- Hand-to-hand Female -- Human -- Kensai (Dualed to mage at 12) Male -- Half-Orc -- Barbarian Male -- Dwarf -- Priest of Talos Female -- Elf -- Bounty Hunter (or possibly an Assassin...) Female -- Elf -- Archer Only problem here is this party doesn't have a mage to begin the game with. Not really a big deal because with 3-4 front line fighters (If you count the priest...) and a backup ranged fighter, you really shouldn't have anything to worry about. Although, having spells like Haste does make many earlier battles much easier. Possibly split class the elf Bounty Hunter into a Mage/Thief. Once the Kensai is dualed to a mage, he moves back to the back and the priest steps up as a front line fighter. When the newly born mage regains his Kensai abilities, he moves back to the front again and becomes a finely tuned instrument of death and destruction. Glycerine |

Still in Chapter 2, but ploughing through everything. I am worried it may not be fun for much longer... ------------------ Time is an illusion. Lunchtime doubly so. Epona of The Laughing Hyenas |

i do a hybrid of the multi make-all-the-chars and using the npc's, namely, i keep the npc's and just hax0r their classes. i enjoy the interactions but prefer my own mix of abilities.
me - elven fighter/thief minsc - undead hunter (gave ring of human influence rather than change stats) jaheira - fighter/cleric aerie - fighter/mage (im not big on clerics as healing/curing potions are more convenient and a long bow is handy for when you need to conserve your mage spells) valygar - archer, who gets replaced by imoen - thief/mage (doesnt feel right changing her) i try to only keep five in the party so i can pick up the odd npc for their particular quests and then let them go. ------------------ blessed are the cheesemakers |
