My party just went into the Trynton area, and met a Hogar, 9 wasps, 5 wasps, 5 rapax patrols, and 4 spiders. We wisely ran away, but when we came back we not only met these same foes, but we were surrounded by them. What is the point of this? If I want to be humiliated and *u**e* over, I can just live my life. Why does IronMan think creating an impossible situation is fun?
I'm seriously thinking of going back to Wizards and Warriors and Ultima 9. Or at least never playing IM anymore. It's like a DM with an inferiority complex. In conclusion, pttttt****************************!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

With 'run away', i assume that you left the area. When you came back immediately afterwards, they won't be gone. You would have to rest some time (best 24 hours) before coming back.
The point where you leave an area is not the some spot where you land when you come back. You land more inside the area, and that was just the spot where your enemies were. Two groups of wasps? I usually get plants. Were you a quite high level, or did you have excellent stats due to training? When i enter trynton, i often don't fight the monsters i meet. Instead i run straight to Chief Gare, and enter the tree. With x-ray, i'm normally able to avoid combat. |

Like Wereboar I do the same as the party is generally too weak at this point. The path to avoid most monsters wotks out to be E over bridge past little ravine, S, then E again. I avoid combat this way more than 90% time. "Surrounded by them" means forget it, do the multiple rest thing. Never played IM, but I guess it's the challenge. You want a reasonable one, not sadistic.

Since i've been going "bacwards" (Ump camp after Monastery to use Kunar's teleporter) up to here, i get to the Tree easily--just one swallower, and sometimes some plants--but there's the three Trynnies right there to help me with the plants if i need it.

haha anybody who plays ironman is insane. one time I played a solo fairy ninja not ironman and had a swallower turn her into an hors d'oeurve. not to mention hogars knocking the crap out of you and mages dropping giant boulders on your head. if ironman were required, I'd just stay in the monastery and try to get a job as a librarian.

Well, i don't play ironman solos. In fact, i don't play solos at all. I tried it, and had to reload that often that it wasn't fun (maybe it would be better if you do stealth training, but i don't).
6 character parties are very easy in ironman. In fact, i can't think of a party with 6 different professions that could have major trouble (unless you choose difficult races). 4 character parties are quite doable in (expert) ironman, if you choose a good combination. I have lost with a few parties, but it's the minority. 3 charracter parties are quite difficult for me. I needed 3 or 4 tries to get one up to higher levels (say 12+). Then, they seemed powerful enough to survive. |

good points. I have a hard time making it through the umpani swiss cheese machine on the first try, so I'll still stay away.

I didn't go through any of the Ump training for the last 40 games or so (if i wanted the fiddle, i used Kunar's pass). Now i'm playing the Flamestryke/Mad God "mod" and there is something in there worth getting. And i've never liked jump-and-run games.

I usually get plants. Were you a quite high level, or did you have excellent stats due to training?" Yeah, I had never run out of an area while being attacked and come right back in, so I didn't realize that I could walk into a couple cans o' whuppass! I had backed up all my games recently before this, so considering I thought I got a raw deal I overwrote this one with the earlier one and when I came back into the around-Trynton area again I only faced 5 plants-2 being the blinding kind (I can't ever remember their names)and on the first round most of my guys got blinded, one whipped the heck out of a plant, then on the second round got blinded, then it was run crying to Chief Gari to ask him to let us into Trynton! No, I didn't have excellent stats, and I never train, so I don't know why I got the greeting party from hell. Although, it is Expert, and I seem to get more Mission Impossibles on Expert, whether IronMan or not. "Never played IM, but I guess it's the challenge. You want a reasonable one, not sadistic." AND "haha anybody who plays ironman is insane." Yeah, both right, it is incredibly addictive AND you don't ever have to remember to save. I used to say, "I'll never play IronMan,' and, "I'll never play Expert," but I guess it's a matter of variety being the spice of life, even if it's a spice that makes me curse like a defrocked priest. Also, I think I am just a little bit of a masochist, as in addition to making all of my recent games IM, I try to give the characters some big fault or weakness. For example, I decided my Lord is only going to use Polearms, even though he couldn't get Poles until he reached Arnika, so he's about Level 10 and his Polearm skill is around 12. "I have a hard time making it through the umpani swiss cheese machine on the first try, so I'll still stay away." I go right up in front of the first spikes, wait for it to come down, then walk through. I never get stabbed unless I forget and decide to run, and even then, even though I get crushed my game is not destroyed. |

Like Scatter I also don't bother with the Mount Gigas caves. But, as he says, and with Flamestryke's mod, there is an excellent sword now available somewhere in the caves AND it can go into the secondary hand slot so you can equip both Fang, for example, and this new sword. Awesome.
I've recently got it and it's well worth going for as he says. Hope this wasn't spoilerish as you still have to find it. As for the UBC obstacle sourse I can successfully get past the spikes 9 times out of 10 but that 10th time... (Edit: typos) [ 12-12-2004, 02:58 AM: Message edited by: Krull ] |
