Does anyone regularly use a ranger in Wiz 8? Is there any use for them since they seem to only be good for ranged combat and searching for things. Since I have the clue book, I don't think I need an eagle eye. Eventually, the party gets good enough that I am not that concerned about ranged combat anyway.

I like to have two ninjas, a monk, two lords, and a psionic in my party. I figure a ranger would add the Alchemist spell book to my group if I put all his bonus points to magic points.

My question is what are the advantages of a ranger in this game? It seems to me that you could use one to add an alchemist that can wear decent armor and use better weapons than just a regular alchemist.

If anyone has used a ranger, is there a large delay in getting spells? For example, a Val or lord learns spells much slower than a priest. A monk or ninja doesn't get the higher level spells as fast as an psionic or an alchemist would.

I don't want to have a good idea and then learn that I am stuck with a wasted spot later in the game when my character is using great armor and weapons but does not have the majic horse power to acheive my goals.

I always have a mook ranger for two reasons...

1. I'm lazy and i like the autosearch
2. Giant Sword

Cheers

I use ranger for autosearch. it's dangerous to go manual search because you can be suprised by monsters.

So what skill points must you give said ranger to increase the autosearch? At what level does this autosearch become effective?

Any answers on when the ranger becomes an effective alchemist?

Well the ranger requirements are different than the other fighter classes, so a multi classed ranger something has different possibilities. One I definitely did was bard ranger because ranger can use infinity helmut. Bard Fighter is better though in most ways lol but a little more different in stats required.

Making potions... finding stuff. Ranged criticals. Not everyone can melee.
Its not either or sort of thing...
But overall... ranger is the lamest fighter class head to head. Yes youre right.

Your senses atrribute should be high. around 50 you can easily search all hidden stuff. Also your artifacts should be high as this will enable you to identify stuff.

I never make the ranger as an alchemist. I make them as a fighter instead.
