First of all I haven't gotten a single good weapon out of any chest. I didn't find out about the randomness of this game until to late, and I don't want to start all over. Is there an editor that you can use to make items like in Baldur's Gate 2? If so what and where is it?
Is there a way to import/export you're party like in BG2? Say if I don't finish the game but go back and start off with a level 15 party? I heard that there was an editor to do this but I think they ment you had to finish the game first. Or at less I couldn't get it to do anything.
Thank you for any help you can give,
Gaiden Cain

Try going to http://www.accessv.com/~cpommer/ and grabbing his SLF editor (to change the items that exist but it doesn't let you create new items...as yet anyway) and his savegame editor. The link he has for the itemstable is wrong on that page, though. Take out the space between 'item' and 'table' on the URL and you'll get it. That list is the list of what the programmers put in to get randomly dropped in each chest and against most of the monsters.

Chest drops are determined the first time you enter an area while monster drops are determined at the time they are killed so if you save right before combat and redo it if you don't get something you want you have a better chance of getting it (in that game) with less exertion than if you go back and reload an area to to get something in a particular chest.

I couldn't remember what boards I'd seen you on or I would have mentioned it to you sooner.

You've done a lot of great work on those editors, BTW - much obliged. I know I've given out your URL at least 10 times on the various boards and I've also given it to some friends as well.

I browse all of the boards linked from the main wizardry 8 site... But I mainly post here and the VN boards.

Thanks for the kind words. Knowing that people actually use this stuff is good incentive to keep working on 'em.

I post on this one and the Greatest RPG Fans one but I also read the VN one - I just don't agree with the privacy policy on that site so I haven't registered for it. (Man, I sound opinionated, don't I? Well, I guess I am. )

And I have to admit that I've only used your savegame editor myself and then mostly just to test it out...and then I went back to my uneditted version. But I've had some friends rave about the SLF editor and said that the savegame one has saved their butts a few times.

BTW, any thoughts about having your savegame editor allowing you to edit the items the characters are carrying? Or perhaps you've done a new version that does have that option? I dl'd my copy about 2 weeks ago so it might have changed. By 'edit the items' I mean changing a bushido blade into a muramasa blade, for example, and not actually editting the powers, etc of the bushido blade.

I know that an old Wiz7 editor that I used to use had that option and it was quite nice to be able to just look up the number of the item you wanted and then enter it into the character's inventory and presto! - next time you went back to the game, the item was there.

Looking at your item list, is the Rapax Queen Chest the only place where I might find a Muramasa blade in the whole game?

If thats the case, that kinda sucks :/

Well, my current "master plan" is to integrate the two editors. Right now I'm trying to figure out an easy way to make an uber-editor. Basically, merging the two would allow me to use all the information from the data.slf file in the save game editor. Things like displaying the picture of your character, listening to their voice, seeing a picture of the items in your inventory, that sort of thing. However, trying to come up with a nice design for the whole thing is daunting. If you've got any ideas, I'd love to hear them.

I must be dumb or something, casue I haven't been able to get you're editors to do want I want. I want to take My already created chars. and there stuff out of an old game and start a new one. Is that a possabilty? As far as the Item editor, I just haven't been able to get it to open a save game file. Keep in mine that I'm very new to editors. I sure that theres nothing wrong with them and its all just me! Help please.

No, you're not dumb. My save game editor doesn't allow you to save characters outside the save file at this time. I'm not sure if the others do or not.

As for the item editor, well, it allows you to edit items globally. What that means, is that it'll edit the "data.slf" file, not your save game(s).
