After playing BG2 for the last 3 years, I'v finally decided to play BG1 for the first time in 5 years. I want to keep this character to the end of TOB (WITH tactics!). Every time i've finished BG2, it's been with a melee character (Paladin kits, Fighter kits), and now I want something different. Any suggestions?

Hmm, well it depends on what you're comfortable with. An Archer would allow you to play a similar class, while still getting a new spin on the game. Not to mention, ranged characters rule BG1!

I take it this is a party?
And are you totally of melee? No barbarians etc? (through bgt/tutu?)

Yes, with a party. I want a character different from standard "hack until they explode", so no barbarians or fighters, or rangers for that matter.

Start off as a fighter. Might be worth you installing one of the mods that lets you play the ToB kits/ruleset.
Kensai maybe? Assassin? Great fun starting as these classes :-D

Uh, Dace, he just sain no fighter classes. A straight cleric can be good all the way through, and can still do some damage at low levels.

I would suggest a thief...mages and Clerics are fun and convienient to have when you need to fireball and stinking cloud the bejesus out of a room but for a true challenge work the stealth and backstab angle of a straight thief.

Yes, thiefs are quite good. I first completed the game with one, and it proved to be a fun time. I like the power of opening locks for some reason...maybe Im just a hoarder
