Slight Spoiler

I killed the wizard at the Friendly Arm Inn by hiding round the corner for a bit before joining the guards in the attack - I think that:

1) I actually did no damage myself &
2) I didn't get the XP for the 'kill'

Does that sound right? What are the rules for this if so?

I don't want to appear greedy or anything but I'm playing a druid and if sending in the hordes means no advancement . . . . .

(The BG2/TOB rules, if any, would be useful as well as I'm really liking this character)

Thanks

I guess that anything/any one that is killed by you or one of your party members directly by a weapon or spell (summoned/raised creatures are also a direct effect of a spell) gives XP.

Indirecly kills as having the guards kill someone or having a confused enemy kill someone (I am not sure with a charmed/dire charmed enemy) or making an enemy kill someone by a fireball (Hmm - enemies killed by traps?? does that give XP?) does normally not give XP.

Maybe someone could fill in the holes above and be more precise.

Kills performed by any creature allied with the main character (party members, summons, Charmed creatures, the PC him/herself) will grant the party EXP and, potentially, cause Rep. loss if the creature killed was classified as "Innocent." The EXP gained is not shared among summoned/charmed enemies, etc.

thanks for that both - is 'kill' the main thing then? so in my example its because one of the guards dealt the final blow?

I always thought that as long as one of your party did damage you got the xp no matter how they died. If I remember right i still got xp when my enemies that were front liners got roasted by their mages.

The killing blow is what counts.
