Hi all, while I am not done with my Fighter / Assassin solo adventure I am pondering a party for a no reloads game. I am thinking of the following setup (at least initially)...

PC - Elven Fighter / Assassin (just b/c I am having so much fun with him now)

Kelsey / another NPC Sorceror or my own creation at Sorceror

Jaheira

Drarf Barbarian or Berzerker

Half Elf or Elf Kensai / ? (not sure on the other class)

I am unsure on a 6th spot as I could easily have serveral multi class characters and the XP would come slower. I have thought of taking Anomen or a Paladin (Keldorn, Saerlith or create a Paladin myself)

I have never tried a no reloads game and thought it would be a good challenge. Anyway, any suggestions anyone might have would be welcome.

Peace, John.

Take either a dwarven fighter/cleric, or dual the berserker to cleric. I would advise the first option, because of HLAs and the dual-class period where you don't have as much capability, or more importantly, saving throws. For the paladin, take a cavalier - the kit bonuses are nice, and the disadvantage is really not one when you consider things like the throwing axes and daggers available. Here's my opinion using most of what you've got there.

Fighter/Assassin
Jaheira
Kelsey (or whoever)
Kensai=>Mage or preferably Fighter/Mage
Fighter/Cleric
Cavalier

You get a couple of mages, all the divine spells in the game, and everyone save Kelsey has some combat prowess, and can wear decent to good armour. You've got the use of all of the best weapons of the game. If you have ToB, you may well consider replacing the Cavalier with a kensai->thief or a fighter/thief, who can use Carsomyr, and in another quickslot provide you with another devastating backstab.

A cleric/ ranger will give you a nice tank(stoneskin etc) and spellcaster(druid spells/ cleric spells) for the 6th spot. My personal favourite for the 6th spot is a skald for his kick ass bard song/ spells and later UAI. Give him a star in short bow and he will be a nice archer to(tuigan!).

Have they fixed that irritating bug during her abduction where the guy won't give you the object, he'll just keep giving you cash?

I had the following succesful no-reload party (bg2 soa and tob):

1) kensai/mage - dualwield swords. Main char.
2) kensai/mage - throw knives
3) Dwarf kensai - throwing hammers
4) half orc fighter/thief multiclassed - bow
5) half elf ranger/cleric multiclassed
6) Keldorn - bow

They were awesome at range and a well rounded party.

If you want a no reloads party with any chances of success at Insane difficulty, then everyone needs Stoneskin or Ironskin or PFMW.

Trust me.

Rather than tell you what to get for your party members, some general tips for surviving a No Reloads game.

..) Sleep in an inn. Do not, unless the Quest calls for it, sleep outside. Sleeping outside is asking for trouble, and trouble brings death.

..) Despite the annoyance, sleep often. Unless you are playing the ultimate combo of "No Reloads AND Roleplay", screw logic and sleep constantly to recharge your spells, abilities, and health.

The exception to this rule is when you are in an area that spawns enemies after you rest... everytime. Ilyich's Dungeon comes to mind...

..) Walk around during the daytime. Sleep at night. Do not walk around at night unless the Quest calls for it. If you really, really, really, REALLY NEED to walk at night. Always assume that a Lvl40 Arch-Lich is just around the corner. There is no such thing as overkill at night, only survival.

..) In fact, there is no such thing as overkill at all. Hurl everything. Annihilate all those that oppose you. Rest to recharge.

..) The path of good is often easier than the path of bad. Good is good, bad is bad.

..) Optional quests are really OPTIONAL. Unless you are playing a "OMGWTFBBQ-ARE-YOU-INSANE No Reloads + Roleplay + COMPLETE EVERY SINGLE QUEST on Insane Difficulty with Tactics installed" game, you are under no obligation to undertake non-plot related quests. Choose wisely.

..) Player created characters are almost always more powerful than NPCs, unless said NPC was from some mod.

..) Plan your battles beforehand. Do not charge into critical fights and end up wondering halfway what to do next. This is almost always fatal on Insane with Tactics Mod.

..) Speaking of which, since this is your first time. Try Core Difficulty first.

..) Failure to prepare is to prepare for failure. Do not for example, wander into battle with a Red Dragon and realise that you memorised Flame Arrows... or enter Chapter 4 prematurely.

..) Imoen is a liability, not a priority. This is a "No Reloads" game. Be a jerk, let her rot and wait.

..) Resistances, resistances, resistances.

..) Saving throws, saving throws, saving throws.

..) Immunities, immunities, immunities.

..) The death of a party member is not the end of the world. Get a replacement, or do without.

..) No reloads means no regrets.

See my "Minnie" post. I'm going to try to bring her through the whole saga without reloading.

IMO, the most survivable character is a Gnome Illusionist/Cleric, because they undoubtedly have the best possible natural saving throws.

Does a no-reload mean no-resurrection/raise-dead-at-temple-or-from-spell?

Just on a side notice, why did you all assume he will be using tactics. Did I miss something? .

Were you serious about the lich? Is it something added by tactics? AFAIR, in normal games the chances of being attacked at night are only slightly larger than at day, and it's usually your normal thugs... nothing you can't handle.
