Does BG run under w2000? I am buying a new computer and want to know what OS I can put on it. I do not want XP. My choices are 98 or 2000 professional. Would prefer 2000 but if BG does not run under it, I will use 98 until I have finished BG.
Does it need the directX 8 module that you download separately? For w2K I mean. I have never read any "fantasy" books or played any dungeons and dragons games before. I took me until level 6-7 on my guys before I understood that I should "roll" for a good un when levelling up. Have wasted sooo many points. ![]() Sorry if the questions have been asked before but I used the search engine for the windows question and got NO hits. Odin |

First Odin allow me to welcome you to the IW boards. Yes BG works just fine with W2K. I have it and have played the entire BG series and it works great. One hint though take the time to do a full install or you will wear yourself out changing CD's.

He he, I have already got arthritis from changing cds all the time. The ******* game crashes on me alot as well. Deleting the cache sometimes help, I have had to reinstall the game around 10 times, and yes, I use the 4315 patch everytime.

We run WinMe with no troubles other than the *&^%&* integrated video card which requires restart every couple hours to ease ram usage. I chose to do the recommended, not full, install and wish I hadn't--those cd changes are *annoying*!

HAHAHAHA*Laughs at those not wise in the ways of the full install* Odin go to your Config and eliminate some of the non-essential sounds that the game generates. This helped me speed up the frame rate and may help with the crashing, not sure though. Stock up on the Ben-Gay for the arthritis

No laughing about my not so full install. Have an old borrowed computer that can hardly fit the game in under normal install so I have no choiche, yet, new computer has 120 GB of space so problem solved.

WinME is not Win2k. They are very different. WinME is a sequel ton Win98 with the old 16bit-kernel, whereas Win2k is the sequel of WinNT with no MS Dos reliques left...
