before looking at this post in disgust first hear me out, i started my
very first kensai/mage and i also have TOB installed so i was going to dual at level 13 i was wondering what question i should save for after i dual and what quests i should do to get to level 13 with my kensai, i have a party of jan, viconia, and korgan. peace |

While a Kensai, skip the easiest stuff: Copper Coronet, Druid Grove, etc., and do middle-difficulty things like the Umar Hills. Then, when your Mage is so low-level as to be essentially helpless, go send Korgan in to mop up the easy stuff for you and earn the party loads of cheap EXP.
There are good Kensai->Mages and cheap Kensai->Mages. I just get tired of the same old cookie-cutter Kensages Dualed at Level 13 with maxed-out STR, DEX, and CON, and Grandmastery in Dual-wielded Katanas. The worst I ever heard of was a guy whose party was Korgan, Edwin, Viconia, Jan....and a Lawful Good Kensai->Mage. I am actually playing my very first Kensai right now....her proficiencies are in Staves, Spears, and 2-Handed Weapons, and she'll dual to a Druid whenever she happens to enter the Druid Grove--which I'd like to be at Level 15, but we'll see how it goes. She's romancing Anomen, a Kensai->Druid and a Berserker->Cleric would have a lot of common ground, but also enough differences to make things interesting. [ADD] Oh yeah, to augment my 'holier-than-thou' attitude (the last thing I need), I should point out that I like to give my characters natural rolls: When in Character Creation, I'll hit Reroll until the cows come home, but I won't move points from one stat into another. My Kensai->Druid rolled 16/18/8/11/16/16, which after the Tome of Retroactive Convenience becomes 17/19/9/12/19/17, a legal Dual. [/ADD] [ 06-02-2004, 03:55 PM: Message edited by: SixOfSpades ]

A good idea is to save those "quest rewards" (usually triggered by talking to someone after you've completed a quest, i.e. Nalia when doing the Keep) until after you've switched classes. You could really use that "easy XP" right after you switch over.
Another good tactic, since you're switching to Mage, is to kick everybody out of the party before you scribe any scrolls. The XP from scribing won't be divided up between everyone, and therefore helps you out.

Since you have ToB, another viable tactic is to save replicas of spells, write them, erase them, and write them again. At at least 1000 xp a pop, you can gain a bunch of levels real fast.

Another good one, is to save all the spells you find along the way, and then when you switch over kick everyone out, and write the spells, or you could go solo.
