You should have seen her when the guy came to install our cable. She hid in my room under my quilt. Except you could see this big lump in the middle of the bed. Not very inconspicuous lol. Oh dear. This is the second thread I have infected with Tuppence stories. I think I've become one of those crazy cat ladies

We already knew you were crazy

Cats can be so much fun I wish I had a cat

LOL is she crazy too? Well why wouldn't you be? Cats are so adorable, I don't understand how people can say they aren't good companions and aren't affectionate except if they want something.

Do you not have any pets at all, Neb? That's a shame. Maybe when you're older and have your own place you can get a kitty or puppy. They give so much love, but I can understand if parents don't want to take on the responsibility. I had so much trouble convincing Mum I needed a Tuppence. She was worried I would leave home and leave Tuppy behind, not that she doesn't love cats, but she wouldn't have chosen to get another pet at this time if I hadn't agitated. But of course Tuppy will be going with me when I leave. I couldn't possibly leave her behind

No pets.... Except for the strange things growing in my wastepaper basket and the dark corners of my room....

I'm a bit unsure about getting a kitten or puppy though, if I can't take care of them and have to give them to someone else I could never do that....

Sounds like a really sweet kitten Melanie I'll have to meet her when I visit some day

Oh absolutely. It is a huge decision to get any pet, but especially one like a cat or dog that will depend on you for everything - food, attention, love, walking etc for 10 years if not more. I get so angry every week when I read the classifieds and see lists and lists of giveaway dogs and cats, usually big dogs like german shepherds and dalmations etc that are about 10 months old, so just growing big and naughty that say 'needs big yard, high fence and lots of attention'. Translation - we got a totally unsuitable dog for our circumstances because we're careless and bought it on impulse, now surprise surprise we can't look after it and have to give it away. As if buying an animal is no different to buying a new sofa or something. Sorry, but that is one of my really really pet peeves .

I know what you mean, I really hate those people who just neglect their pets in every possible way

Those poor animals usually end up so damn disturbed that the most humane thing to do would be to have them put to sleep

Like there was this one ad once, it said "will take back in school holidays"???!!! Yes that would really be fair to the dog. It would leave its family and go off with a new family, then they'd bring it back to its old house in the holidays and it would think 'oh yay! I'm finally coming home!' But then it would have to leave again when the holidays were up and its old family were sick of it again.

Well actually a damn lot of them are put to sleep, you know that if no one answers the ad most of them are taken to the RSPCA, and if they're not put with a new family in a certain amount of time they're killed. It's so sad.

Well see you Nebby. Nice to talk with you

LOL, Aelia. (Gives Neb 100mg of Meperidine) Yeah, I've got this black hooded coat, and both Attalus and HTS say that it makes me look like Imoen, so I plan to wear a short leather skirt, and boots. If he comes across with a REALLY good Valentine's present.

*Pours Kayro syrup down Neb's throat.*

(I had a diabetic cat I had to give insulin and then humulin to for a few years. Turned out he had a brain tumor and acromegaly. He was written up in a veterinary journal by the senior vet student who took our case in Cornell. His tumor caused the insulin to not work so well, was giving him whopping huge doses by the end. Miss that kitty alot, but have two orange darlings now that take up a lot of my energy.)

Yay, it's Cloudy! Sorry to hear about your kitty. Pets do tear at your heart, don't they? Must ask Attalus for the name of that poem of Kipling that he always quotes, but it has the lines: "O, brothers and sisters I bid you beware/ Of giving your heart for a dog to tear."
He's the big Kipling fan. We have two dogs and a cat, all foundlings. He always says, when we lose one, those lines, and "When one goes, another turns up."
