No realy, I did do my research.
Dude - your totally confusing me. Changing your name is exactly that - CHANGING your name. There IS a legal way to do it, as Shamrock is pointing out. All I can gather is that you are arguing that people may or may not call you by your new appointed name. But this is true even if you don't want to change your name. For instance, some people here call me Dave, Fag, Shithead and You're Highness to name a few, and I don't ask them to call me the last three. Get my drift?

I think you sort of got it right here;
"So, there is no legal route you have to take to change your name"

with the HAVE being the emphasis. You can tell people what to call you, but that does not make it legally binding (on paper, at least). People will call you what you tell them to (if they wish to, of course - see my above comment about shithead), but for all intents and purposes the Government will label you as your birth name. Unless you legally change it through them.

Is that what you want? Or are asking?

Christ, I've just confused myself further.

That's where your wrong.

It's just as legal as a deed poll... A deed poll is just a way of proving that you are known by your new name, it's basicaly your promissing not to use any other name but the one you have chosen.

But it's no more legal than putting an annoucment in the local paper declairing that you've changed your name.

In fact you don't have to make any big declariation, just wake up one day and think "I want to be called [name] from now on" and as long as you go by that name alone it's perfectly legal.

So you see, there is no legal system to changing name, there are things that can assist a change of name such as the aformentioned deed poll, but they are not required.

Your Highness put it in a very nice way, and I fail to understand your reasoning for choosing those names.

Thankyou, oh ye faithful subject.

Now, bow down and... er... worship me.

Yeah, Q, may I be so bold as to ask why you chose the names you did?

Would you like to share it with us, or are you afraid we'll just end up burning it down like we did with the others?

It's a traditional name, well a variation of one.

And I'm not going to hang it out for everyone to bash on it, or me indirectly through it.

I might tell ya'll more in the near future, don't pester me though.

Also means hiking sandals -- which, come to think of it, may be made by a jewish-owned company.

Skyler is no good unless you're a stripper. Then it works fine.

I know what you mean about not liking your name -- I dislike mine as well. But, I never changed it. I had a friend who started going by his middle name when he went to Uni. We all teased him for it quite a lot.
