I believe they are planning on calling D&D 5e - "Oh-My-God-I-Can't-Believe-People-Will-Buy-Another-Edition Dungeons & Dragons".

WotC/Hasbro is all about putting out new products that change the rules. Just look at Magic: the Gathering. They release at least one major revamp of the rules a year. Though, at least with that it's mostly backwards compatible.

I think he's just apathetic towards the stupid adventurers who are bothering him simply because they want to buy something (again!).
It sure doesn't help that gnomes were demoted, too!
