I broke my neck some years ago, so I do have some expertise in this field.

Make sure you have a decent mattress and pillow that supports your spine. The majority of neck and back problems can occur from improper sleeping surfaces.

Trust me, having a good bed and pillow makes a huge difference. [img]smile.gif[/img]

And my shoulder sounds like a big limb breaking off a tree...but that's a few too many similes for my taste...so let's go for personification...

I am almost greatful. except that my neck stays stiff, and I can only turn it so far to the right before it starts to hurt

Try heat, Stormy. It's worked pretty well for me, and I've had some neck problems (on a bicycle going about 40 kph, sideswiped by a car, header over the handlebars and about 6 somersaults down the road).

You can buy a long, flexible, cylindrical heating pad; mine's called a Bed Buddy (it's warm, but not very friendly, LOL). You put it in the microwave for a couple minutes and put it across your shoulders. Very good for cold wintry weather.

Also talk to you doctor about it. There's some approved neck exercises you can do that help strengthen and loosen your neck. I've got full range of motion with no pain, now, and I only had about 5 degrees of left-right movement after my accident.

it is ok, it seems to run in the family

my mom has had the same neck problems for years, and my father has a bone disease that I seem to have as well

I can pop my neck, my back, my hands, and my big toes. The only ones anyone can hear are my toes and my neck, though. I popped my neck just after reading the title.
