Is the original MOO free to download, or is a trial?

For the MOO3 do you need a good graphic card? I've seen screenshots..it looks like it does.

The Original MOO (by Simtex) is classified as an abandonware. It is not exactly "free" per se but you can download it free from most adandonware sites. Mind you that this is a DOS game, so, to play it on a Win95/98 system you will need to tweak a bit with your config.sys and autoexec.bat I have a simple example (below) on how you could tweak these two files. While you are at it, you might was well get a copy of MOM (Master of Magic). It is equally addictive as MOO. Yes, it is an abandonware and a DOS game too.

To play the latest version of MOO3, I am not sure about the hardware specs and I suggest you check out the hardware requirement from the offical site (as provided by the link on the previous post).

Sample config.sys
Files=99
Device=C:\Windows\Himem.sys
Device=C:\Windows\Emm386.exe AUTO RAM
(or was it RAM AUTO?)
Dos=high,umb

Sample autoexec.bat
@echo off
Set Path=C:\Windows;C:\Windows\Command
LH (dos mouse driver)
LH (dos soundcard driver)

Press F8 during the initial Windows startup screen and select "Start with Command Prompt only". Once the boot up sequence is completed, execute the game and enjoy.

Honestly LOA... I don't know. I have been avoiding WinXP like a plague and I have to admit that I know very little about WinXP and Win2K. Maybe someone else can you with that.

LoA, no that will not work with 2K or XP, unless you dual boot with 98. ME has no command prompt, 95 may work too, but straight XP or 2K, no.

ME does have a command prompt. Every windows so far has a command prompt. Start->run->command.

And the boot config given will work on XP/2K, provided that you have a FAT32 drive to run the game from. Win98 boot disks will boot up in a XP/2K macine, but wont be able to read a NTFS drive.

If the game is small enough you can run it straight from the floppy, but I doubt OOM is that small.

No problem. This is one of the reason why I avoid switching to Win2K or WinXP. Actually, if you have some extra cash, you could go to a garage sale or online auction and get yourself a cheat old P1 or 486DX4/100. Install old MS-DOS 6.X and you will be able to play old games with very little hassle.
