How to dertermine if you have 18 strength.
Do as I did. Work on a farm growing up. If you can carry four 100 pound sacks of livestock feed, 2 on each shoulder, then run about 50 or so feet with them, then run up a ladder to store it in the loft, you are are doing pretty good. That's 400 pounds of encumberance. Now do this sun up to sun down, all day, every day. Buck green hay bales that weigh 150 to 200 pounds or more, tossing, loading, unloading, and, tossing it about teen feet or so to the next person in the chain of folks trying to get it stored. Why did I set my dex to 16 for the young me? Well, at the time, I could juggle knives and flaming torches, but, I was no tightrope walker or a master of acrobatics. I could get about 7 flaming torches and knives into the air before it got dangerous. And why the con? Well, the one thing I seem to be gifted with is to take the worst possible beatings that one could imagine. To give you some idea of what I am talking about, I have wiped out on a motorcycle doing over 100mph in the Napa Valley in Cali. I took a curve a little to hard and I think I hit a wet leaf or a stray piece of gravel. I flew helmet first into a tree after skidding like a skipping stone over the pavement. I broke a lot of bones that day. I have also been hit by things like; 18 wheeler trucks, got mauled by a bear while hunting up in Washington state, got gored by an elk, same state, different trip. I was in a jeep that flipped, then rolled over. The safety harness broke, sending me flying out. The jeep then rolled over me, the rollbars crushing my chest, bruising my heart, collapsing a lung, breaking all my ribs, fracturing 7 of the bones in my spine, rupturing my spleen, my liver, and my pancreas. Also had several skull fractures, due to my body snagging onto the jeep as it flipped, the force of it rolling over catapulted me into a large rock skull first, this time, no helmet. My reported last words from friends also involved in the accident, "Damn, this is gonna hurt like hell in the morning" just before blacking out. Also survived. Many car wrecks, to many motorcycle wrecks to count, several explosions, and, one plane crash. I was not on the plane, don't ask, it's not something I remember very well. Also survived, heavy metal poisoning, all it did was screw up my liver a good bit, I lost my vision for a while, and, it gave me a lot of gas for some reason. Between all those things, I think I can safely say my constitution is probably considered super human, to say the very least. During my cancer surgery, they lowered my body temp considerably, to reduce blood loss and system shock. I died for a bit as the surgery was wrapping up, got revived, bounced back as usual. The other stuff is probably subjective anyways, due to how one views themselves. The physical stuff can be proven, to a certian degree I believe. |

Alignment: Neutral Good
Strength: 10 (about in the middle) Dexterity: 9 (Steady hand, can shoot a bow very well--when I can hold it, as I drop things constantly) Constitution: 8 (Not much stamina--not any stamina at all--but can't seem to get sick) Wisdom: 9 (again, average) Intelligence: 14 (does the term "bookworm" mean anything to you?) Charisma: 6 (couldn't persuade Sam Houston to shoot a Mexican soldier)

hmmm, 4 times 100 pounds makes 200 kilos i believe.
( not english, guessing a pound is half a kilo ) Well, that would definetly not be me I am however pretty strong,.. I dont know the english word for it, but basically almost no fat and mostly muscle ( 1.87 m, weighing 75 kilo ) As I said, a gymnast body: Maybe 11 strenght ? Dex. is o.k., I'm not just juggling 7 knives in the air yet though. Pretty good at aiming a weapon though, but aiming a weapon's easier than aiming a bow I think Practice jiu-jiutsu with a very talented black belt-friend, which has definetly helped to tweak my reflexes. Dunno the average, but i guess I'll go with 12 - 13 here. I can take a lot of physical punishment though, I used to fight every day .. makes your nerves go dull and bones to thicken. I run real fast and i run a lot, I like running .. plus i bycicle atleast 20 km. a day. Compared to my own age group ( around 18 ) I run fast and have a great condition. And i hate quitting, so I'll run till i start to cough up blood. But I do get sick pretty fast, ah well, never said my body makes sense. So my con. 'll be 16 Travelled around a lot, met a lot of religions, interesting people ( especially around Asia ) and had my fair share of confronting moments with myself. But then again, I think it was Aristotle who said that a truly wise man knows he has no knowledge ![]() I'll go with that partially, because aristotle said a lot of bullshit too. So wis. is 5 I do know quite a lot about quantum mechanics actually, love nanotubes and can explain why metals shine involving different energy-states of atom-rings. Anywayz .. I think i deserve some credit for reading al that stuff So int. 'll be 16 ( I dont wanna go too near to Stephen Hawking ) Well, pretty goodlooking they say ( body of a gymnast, blond hair, big brown eyes always do the trick ![]() str. 11 dex. 13 con. 16 wis. 5 int. 16 cha. 14 Is this more realistic, or am i still a god ? ( Could anyone give the average scores of each stat ? )

9-11 are the average values. Anything above 16 is basically extraordinary.
Nice stories you make up Butterfingers, especially liked the one about a teenager carrying 400 pounds on his shoulders while running up a ladder.

If you give yourself stats above 10 consider this: do you think you're able to do ALL the stuff your avatar in BGII does?
I don't think so. You wouldn't be playing games if you're THAT good.

I'd say i'm chaotic good i think (bah)
Abilities eh? Hmmm... Str: 16 (I'm a pretty big dude, and yes size does matter, plus i've won nearly every fight i've been in) Dex: 14 (Not all that fast but good hand-eye coordination from playing games since i was 2) Con: 10 (i'm sick every other month or so) Wis: 10 (Don't think before I do something) Int: 14 (Could be better) Chr: 16 (When the time comes, I know what to do, other than that, a 12) |

OK, Butterfingers, I believe you (but I'd still say you have to cap your Con at 18, unless you want to convince us you have divine help).
But, still, I'd think you more than most would scoff at most of the stats posted here. Do you, Butterfingers, honestly believe every other person posting to this thread has the Strength of an NFL lineman & could even come close to your personal story? (heck, just based on the rulebook, you need to be able to carry 150 pounds of gear *with no effect on anything you do* to justify a 15 STR - I'm guessing many people can lift that, but carry it with no hindrances?!?) The funniest part about this thread is seeing people say they have 15+ Int & then misspell every other word... (don't get me wrong, I'm willing to accept that the people who play BG have a bit higher Int than the general populace, just not that everyone here's a genius & can lift 500 pounds & can run a marathon & could be a politician) - Imrahil |

When I was growing up a long time ago, on the farms and such (They were correctional boys farms) it really was not uncommon for people to do these sorts of things. You got strong quick, or else, you would not get fed much and you would be strapped for being lazy. You had to be strong. I dunno how many of you folks have bucked hay, but, do you even realize how big or how heavy a bale of green hay is? Yet, millions of folks probably have bucked hay, I am just guessing that not many of you have.
As far as physical strength goes, folks sitting in front of a computer for many hours are not the strong sorts. Even folks like pro lifters are not that strong. Oh they have strength, enough to gorrila press 500 pounds or so for a few seconds, but, they can't keep it up long. However, folks who work sun up to sun down get strong quickly. To even assume that anybody, especially as somebody else put it, "teenagers" can't do this, well, the world would not be what it is today. It was teenagers, kids even, who built the pyramids. Slave labour. Most of those slaves never lived to see the age of 20, so yes, they were teenagers. Not just the pyramids either. Entire cities have built on the backs of so called teenagers, most of whom have strong backs and muscles like iron from contant heavy labour. As for saying it is physically impossible, how many of you realize that your legs have to produce energy of anywhere between 10 to 12 times your own body weight or so to break gravity and jump just six or so inches into the air? Now folks who can jump even higher have to call up even more energy. People, almost all people have amazing amounts of strength, however, they rarely find them selves in a situation where they are forced to learn how to use it. The human body is one giant machine, a series of levers, springs, etc. Martial arts like Aikido teaches you how to use these in a better fashion, allowing seemingly frail old men to throw folks 20 feet acrossed the room. People can learn these sorts of things naturally as well, as in the case of folks who do manual heavy labour. Want to be strong? Go out and dig ditches and lay irrigation pipe. Buck hay. Haul sweet feed into a loft. Do it all day long. You wont be weak very long. Hell, you will probably surprise your self. But most folk don't do these sorts of things in this day and age. Or, go and work on an oil rig Hauling sections of piping and lugging drill bits around all day will make you a monster. Of course, it's more fun to be lazy and do nothing at all. Sweaty hard labour is for suckers |

All of which is exactly why I was suggesting that you, in particular, would find it hard to believe all these people giving themselves a 14-16 Str score...
(my initial post was not directed at you, btw, 'cause you justified your scores, but the people who give themselves an *average* score, across the board, of 13-14!!!) - Imrahil |
