Wear the proper track shoes however. I now have a bone spur because I had on cheap-ass shoes just one day and now I cannot jog anymore.
Jogging is hardly the best way to burn fat and stay healthy. The best way to burn fat and stay healthy is to get enough exercise (that means taking your bike out of the shed instead of stepping into your car) and mind what you eat. Excessive jogging or running actually does damage joints. Any sport done in excessive matter is bad for your body. Top athletes don't last very long.

The remark about the shoes is true, however. Don't be greedy when you're out there buying sports shoes. Usually when you pay 20 dollars more you have a shoe that's of a better quality.
[/QUOTE]That is good sound advice. It may take a lifestyle change to achieve your goals. Don't forget about swimming either for exercise.

If you are just wanting to run, excellent advice has been given. Breathing is something that only you can refine. My experience in running is once the initial start is complete and you are into the run, breath in when your starting arm moves forward. Let's say left arm forward, breath in, (deep). Hold for right arm to come forward, left arm back, right arm forward-back, release as left arm starts to move rearward on the 2nd pump. Then back in whilst the left arm comes back up, and forward(2 pumps, 1 breath). I have found that I can keep a platoon of grunts, this is hard to imagine I know, but, running, breathing, singing, and all in step for 4 times a week, either short runs 3 miles(4.8km) or less, to long runs, 9-11 miles (14.4-17.6 km).

As with anything start slowly, let the body adjust, and expect a little set-back. Pain in the knee or ankle joints, is a sign of improper leg or foot placement. You should not run whilst attempting to pound the ground with your feet. lean back just a little, and allow the foot, then leg to gently glide onto the ground. Stay away from hard unforgiving surfaces, without well equipped shoes.

Good luck, and have fun.
