"The price of Liberty is Eternal Vigilance." But on whose part? The government or the people, or both? Yes, freedom must have some limitations or all you have left is Anarchy, and wheres the fun in that?

"THE PRICE OF LIBERTY IS ETERNAL VIGILANCE"
I've always associated this with the cold war. I think of it as you have to protect yourself from those that would take your freedom away. What's happening now is backwards: You can't fight them so to protect your live you have to sacrifice some of your freedom. The Price of Eternal Vigilance is Liberty. |

that quote seems like something out of the Mcarthy Era really. But i suppose it could be considered a saying for all time, or at least times of people living in fear anyway... >_> when you think about it, if we were to always be vigiland all the time thne that would single out the lazy/non vigilant people and we'd have a break down in our lazy-people system not a good thing for the couch potatoes and late-night drinkers of the world as they'd be put in the same ranks as people plotting agasint the government simply for not being vigilant enough, or even worse, Singling out the vigilant folks, as it would really be those about to commit something heinos that were vigilant... Interesting way of looking at it now, eh?

"THE PRICE OF FREEDOM IS ETERNAL VIGILANCE" - quoted by Admiral Tolwyn at the tribunal. Unfortunately this motto drove him into insanity and the tribunal found him guilty and sentence him to death. Subsequently he hung himself in his cell. I guess having too much of anything is a curse indeed.

A few years ago someone went around Sydney graffitiing "Che Lives!" all over the place.
Some statement. Then someone else went around around editing them to read things like "Cheap Olives!", "Cheese Slices!" and "Itchy Livers!" Brilliant.
