Just make sure you don't end up with any of the wrong ones. Although, having one of the really wrong ones around for a while can make some of the so-so ones seem a lot better. And also helps you appreciate one that just might be the right one.

There was a parable about a man who was seeking the perfect wife. He searched everywhere, and traveled around the world. Finally, after years of exhaustive searching, he found her - and she was waiting for the perfect man.

It is a Buddhist story.

It boils down to - you have to be the best YOU can be. Then you will find someone who appreciates that who will be perfect for you.

And of course, not looking desperate helps.

Hiram, I pretty much gave up looking for that 'someone' in my mid twenties. At forty one, he breezed into my life and turned everything upside down. I'm going to marry him in about a year.

Never give up hope, but don't live for that one event. Live your life and enjoy each day as it comes.

Just to let you know - my cousin met her "One" when she was 16. They married when she was 17. They have been together now 26 years. When I ask her how she knew, she tells me that it was "meant to be". (And yes, they are still very happy together, and just had their third child.)

It all depends on what you are looking for.

I used to say, "Find a person whose faults you can live with." That worked to an extent, but I also found out that without enough in common, you don't stick together long.

I guess when you are being the best you can be, the self confidence will attract others who are.

Hiram,

As a Christian, I firmly believe that there truly is "someone for everyone". I understand your fears and frustrations though. My first major relationship lasted 4yrs, but ended rather badly. After that, I went for 3 years without having any significant dates.

As many others have said, I finally found her after I quit looking so hard. I met her while working on a "temp" job in the Data Processing Dept. of a local hospital. She worked in the Business Office also. We started "seeing each other" and after about 2 weeks of "seeing each other" every single day, we realized we wanted to become serious. We were both catious, because our previous relationships had ended badly.

The really funny part is that I never asked her to marry me. It's true - I never proposed to my wife. She came over to my house one Saturday morning to pick me up. As we were going down the road she asked what I wanted to do.

"I don't know", I said "Do you want to go over to the jewelry store and pick out some rings?"

That's how we became engaged. We will have been married for 10 years in February and we have 3 extraordinary boys.

Don't give up hope. I was 29 when we met, but it didn't take long for us to realize we were soulmates. The right one IS out there...and you will most likely meet her when you least expect it.

I completely agree. It wasn't until after I COMPLETELY gave up looking for her and was ready to just live my life and have a great time doing it, that "she" walked into my life. I knew she was perfect for me when i first saw her, and I've been on cloud nine for years now. Just relax and enjoy all that life is. When you're truly ready, and she's truly ready, I believe you'll meet/connect.

Azred, is her name really Belle?

This topic seemed so interesting that I had to post something.
Well,I think (too) that there is someone for everybody.
I havent really met anyone yet (well,I am quite young ),but I would like to meet the right guy for me someday.Well,I dont even know where to meet people,so I think that it will be difficult.
Someone (sorry, cant remember) said that the perfect isnt needed,I think that too,no one is perfect.
Because I am quite lonely (as you have noticed,I lurk here all the time ),I dont even need to meet the right one now,or in twenty years,it is the waiting that is killing me.It is so boring being alone all the time.
Oh,I must say someone (again sorry, cant remember) said that his sister had med her right one when she was 16,that it exactly the same thing that happened to my friend!!! And to my parents too!!! How lucky they are.
Well, good luck to you all singles there!!! He/she will bump in to your life!!!
