Thanks Nick, but I could swear there was an easier way. Anyway, I did resolve the problem, but it was a puzzler.

First off the unread mail listing includes hotmail, so if your using any sort of .net passport or messenger, that's were the unread mail is coming from (read: spam). For tweaking XP, I suggest Tweak UI for XP. Grab it here: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/p.../powertoys.asp

I have it, and that's where the "simple tool" for turning off the un-read mail notice is!
