Socialist isn't exactly the right word either, it's Stalinistic it it's worst form.

To be further left than you appreciate is not necesarily to be communist. North Korea is Socialist last I checked, and that is a big difference.
Was this an answer to my post or Sir Degrader's?

The judgement I made on the superiority thing is based numerous propanda movies from the Soviet Union and North Korea shown in various documentaries. The impression I've gotten is that several Communist states have had an interrest to present themselves in the best manner as possible to such an extent that they sometimes straight out lies about the state of their country, economy etc. My post is not intended to make any judgements whether Communism is better or worse than Capitalism.

I would regard North Korea as Communist as far as the name goes. How well they follow, say, Marx' teachings in another question altogether. Not too much, I'd guess.

And finally, last time I checked, Communism was a form of Socialism.

I somehow doubt this new push against long hair will cover the Exalted Leader and his puffy hairdos.
And Sir Degrader, MacArthur is laying in a sarcaughagus in down-town Norfolk about four or five miles from where I'm sitting.

Question Mark

The governmental assault on "improper hair styles and modes of dress" is a symptom of the rampant paranoia in the North Korean government. The US went through something similar in the 50s and 60s, when those who didn't look "quite right" were assumed to be Communists or dissidents of some sort and long hair on a male was a sign of complete rebellion.
Pyongyang knows that it is in a critically weak position and is trying desperately to regain even the appearance of control. North Korea probably has only 10 years left before it self-implodes.
Both. You both called NK 'communist', which they are not.

But you forget that while many socialist teachings exist, others can emerge and still be considered socialist (or communist, if they go that far). There isn't a limited number of doctrines, just as Bush's capitalism is slightly different from John Howard's capitalism, which is different again from Pauline Hanson's policies.

Only insomuch as facism is a byproduct of capitalism. Communism is a fair bit further to the left.

On what basis? You say the US went through this... did they self-implode after 10 years? It's been longer than that, and well, there seems to be alot of US influence in the world today...
Communism and Socialism
Much confusion surrounds the words "communism" and "socialism", particularly in the United States. In terms of ideology and politics, communism is a sub-category of socialism. Communist ideology is a specific branch of socialist ideology and the communist movement is a specific branch of the larger socialist movement. A person who calls himself or herself a "communist" is a certain kind of socialist; in other words, all communists are socialists but not all socialists are communists. In terms of socio-economic systems, communism and socialism are two different things. For example, socialism involves the existence of a state, while communism does not. Socialism involves public ownership of the means of production and private ownership of everything else, while communism abolishes private ownership altogether. Source: Wikipedia

Communism, at least in terms of ideology and politics, is a part of the greater family of Socialism. How far left it goes compared to other forms of Socialism is irrelevant.

On a side note here, judging from the article at Wikipedia, my usage of the term "Communist States" is not entirely a correct one.

My locks haven't been cut in 12 years. They grow almost like nature intended. ( no dreads for this white-boy)

Thanks goodness I only have to deal with a few narrow-minded folks who don't know any better due to age or conditioning. Those like this close to me have all given up trying now that their predictions that long hair would limit my success in life have been disproven. It's an inside family joke that a conditon in a certain relative's Will maybe a haircut before I get any of the estate.
Ah, but they have a level of paranoia that we didn't have. Besides, if the government is having to crack down on hairstyles, then they are scrambling to maintain a grip on their own country. It's like a national version of obsessive-compulsive disorder, like when a person begins washing their hands 50 times per day to stay "clean". The desire for conformity and the distrust of foreign hairstyles and clothing are simply the indicators of this paranoia.
