of different computers none as powerful as my
newest but I own a pent 4 2.4Ghz with a nVidia
5900 and a pent4 2.4Ghz with a ATI 9600pro and
the 2 are rated pretty much the same. There isn't
any visual difference with them setting next to
each other with the same games loaded on each.
Both of these computer Were gifts to my son from
me so his friends as well as myself can play
different games together on one of my internal
networks that we set up in his room.
My son and I use to go around and around about
ATI & Nvidia and we both came to the conclusion
that the best card is the one you have at the
time and when you put one next to another that
are made by different companies with similar
stats it all boils down to which one you think
is best.
As far as Compatability problems Both have these
same so called problems such as the ones in guild
wars where the game was designed with all ATI
equipment many nVidia card didn't function well
at all in the game until a patch was made for
nVidia cards. Call of Duty had the same type
problems with nVidia cards when it first came out.
So it really doesn't matter what game your playing
There are conflicts with every video card, every
Microprocessor and every sound card no mater who
makes them. You need to over come them and use
what ever equipment you can afford or which ever
you prefer to use and if you like one use it but
I'm really tired of all the bull crap about one
computer componet being beter than another because
for every fault you can find with someone's
equipment they, can in turn find fault with yours.
So what it all boils down to is who gives a flying
monkey fart whos is best, if it work for you then
use the damn thing no mater what the reason is.
I use ATI for one reason: It works for me and I've
never ever had a problem with then and the nVidia
Cards I own I've never ever had any problem with
them eighter I just like the Name "ATI Radeon"
and that's really the only reason I buy them over
nVidia! Oh and the fact that nVidia sounds more
like an Orange juice drink than a video card maker.
Hmm I don't know. I have found that more Readme files' 'known issues' and patchnotes seem to sound problems with ATI cards rather than Nvidia.

I have found also that ATI cards are in fact visually different than Nvidia cards. I own 4 systems (2 are high end the other 2 are old but usable) and my ATI makes games look prettier most of the time. But Nvidia images appear a little sharper. It's almost like ATI has a built-in 'bloom' effect that can't be disabled and yes, I've tried many drivers and settings.

Three games off the top of my head that I've played and had ATI issues are Thief 3 (corrected in a later-released ati driver), City of heroes (never been corrected despite ati's efforts) and NWN's (seems to be a workaround for it). I searched the readmes for mention of Nvidia and none came up but they all had ATI issues at some point.

My point is all games will have problems with certain hardware, like you say, but I find that ATI comes up in this situation *more* than Nvidia does. It's a no-brainer for me, go the safer route.

Understand, I like how my ATI renders it's just the compatibility issues scare me. If you have a card with zero problems, great. I don't wanna take a chance on a big hefty card from ATI just yet.

Personally, I've only ever owned two graphics cards...one nVidia GeForce 2 MX and an ATI x800GT. The first was bought to play Morrowind, and it did, albeit not that terribly well (couldn't turn view distance as high as I'd like). The second went into "Hosscat."

The reason I chose the first one was availability and ignorance. The reason for the second one was it was the cheapest card with 512 MB onboard RAM, which I had assumed was the most important aspect about a graphics card at the time. Beyond that, ATI made the graphics processor for the Gamecube, so I was already fairly impressed with what they could do.

Spirit The taking chances is what I like but
the reason also why I chose the X1600XT over
the X1900XTX the bigger card is useing the
same chip in as the X1600XT its the larger
board and all the acompaning chipsets and
transistor cluster IC's on the card that make
the difference. The X1600XT, X1800XT,X1900XT &
X1900XTX all use the exact same microprocessor.
The X10600XT is the only one not overclocked and
which will make it more realiable and last longer.
ever since last june I have been studing these carde and read every spec sheet and test out
there that I could find. PC Magizine said that
the ATI X1600XT is considered the most stable
card ATI has ever developed its the hardyest
and most reliable after running a battery of
tests on a number of different Video accellerators
and assorted Microprocessors that had been
developed for the gaming industry the X1600 was
the best all round card on the market.
Don't get me wrong they didn't meen there were no better Video cards on the market they ment that
the X1600XT performance, durrability, price all
together compaired to all other cards was the
best for your money and likely to out live all
the less and more powerful cards out at this time.
so I went with it and if it lasts as long as it's
suspose to I'll be happy.
