OOC>>>
Glad to have you with us, RevRuby! Just remember to use OOC and IC to distinguish when you are in character or out of character. That makes it a little easier for us to read.
I hope you have had a chance to read some of the history of this game, as it was most exciting! I look forward to this revival tremendously!

ooc: With regard to character level for this story, 3 things seem to be important:

1. Characters should be strong enough to have a reasonable chance to survive and contribute to the success of the adventure without being ridiculously overpowered.
2. Having a broad range of levels could open up some enjoyable possibilities for the game.

In light of this new characters should be somewhere within the range of level 10 to 20 with a few reasonable magic items appropriate to their level. Hopefully this will give us a mix of characters of varied ability and power that might all still have an important part to play in the game. It should also allow both those who prefer higher level characters and those who prefer to play something less powerful a chance to have some fun in the thread. I'll leave the specific level choice up to the individual players trusting that when all is said and done we'll have a good mix.

A side note - For those of you with NWN I might be able to make a couple of the adventure areas available in module form in the near future.

After the Last Battle, all was quiet on the forums, or so many thought. Dantes took the one ring from the Modding mage and returned it to its rightful owner, but all was not well. It first started as a terrible dream. A force beyond comprehension that destroyed everything it its path. Dantes woke up many nights in a cold sweat with the same terrible dream. He knew it would come to pass if something was not done. So he began his search. He searched all of the scorched ground around the castle, and all of the forums, but nowhere was the ranger to be found. It seemed that after he destroyed the Modding Mage the strange ranger disappeared back to whatever mysterious place he came from. So Dantes began his search, and it was a search like no other. Spanning both time and space Dantes travelled the plains searching for how to destroy this mysterious hunger that could feed on the power of the one ring, and that not even spellfire could destroy. For years on end he searched, but sadly it was in vain, for no new information was found on this new threat. During this time the hunger, feeding on the body's and maybe even the very souls of all those that came in contact with it, grew stronger. When he returned he heard feared whispered rumors of the new threat muttered in the dark of taverns and alleys. He knew that he would have to stop this new power at all costs. And he still had the nightmares. . .

The Gorge

They had thought it was there simply for the taking, whatever treasure the Modding Mage had accumulated. Surely it lay buried somewhere beneath the collapsed ruin of his tower and surely someone like themselves, someone for whom digging through stone was as natural as breathing itself should be easily able to find it. So they thought and their eyes shined brightly in their greed for hidden wealth. The digging had gone well until they had come upon that strange seam of inky black stone, dark even by the lightless measures of what surfaces call the Underdark. It was them that they felt it, that faint yet Hungry stirring. They thought little of it believing it to be nothing more than the lingering effects of the power of the Mage within his land and so they dug with renewed energy as surely this was a sign that they approached the levels of stone which would allow them access to the mountain tunnels that would lead them to the tower.

Above them, however, an insatiable emptiness felt the drawing near of life. Weak little lives but lives all the same and as the unusual black stone began to crack and fall to pieces under their efforts the emptiness reached suddenly through the fissures to seize the diggers. For a moment the sound of metal tools striking stone was replaced by the sound of screams rising from Duergar throats and then silence fell once more within the tunnel. But a way had been opened and the Hunger began to reach with its mindless appetite outward through this opening .....

Zachary Thorrson had wandered the forums for many months in search of adventure. His first stop had been in a growing town by a large sea called Waterdale. It seemed like a good place to build a temple to Odin, the All-Father and he had set about to get the necessary permits. As he waited in the city officials office, though, a kraken had attacked the city. The brave defenders had repelled the attack, but nobody returned to help him secure the paperwork for the temple, so he had finally set off to search other threads for a home.

He had briefly visited the forum of General Discussions, thinking that would be a good place to find information or at least offer his services as Odin's Chosen cleric. But Alas, the Powers that Be had declared that Religion was not to be discussed there until some future date.

So Zachary had gathered taken his Mace of Disruption and Warhammer and headed for other areas that spoke of adventurers and quests. But places like Baldur's Gate, Amn, Ten-Towns, Athkala, and other destinations were unfamiliar to him. His travels finally brought him back to Roleplaying forum. He felt most comfortable here for some reason. There were also some familiar places here. He had visited the DragonSlayer Inn many times, and had often watched the battles in the Octagon. He had spent the last few weeks praying to Odin and polishing the light blue Field Plate armor he had been given after completing an especially difficult quest. The large blue eye in the center of the chest plate stood out in stark contrast to the lighter blue shade of the armor. It also matched the amulet he wore around his neck...a large blue sapphire set in a mithral frame. This enchanted item had been a gift directly from Odin after undertaking a personal quest for his favor. The "Eye of Odin" allowed him to see through all illusions and spot any invisible creatures that may be lurking about. It was his most prized possession, one worthy of the Chosen of Odin (as Zachary often referred to himself).

As he wandered through the countryside, he noticed an unusual note written on a plank. "To those that combat the Hunger, Please meet me here". He stared at the message for several minutes. It was the missing piece to a puzzle he didn't even realize he had been trying to solve. He only knew that "something" had drawn him back to this forum and that there was some purpose in his being here. Now it all made sense. He would meet these other adventurers and - together - they would defeat this all-consuming Hunger that threatened their very existence. The glory of Odin would be served and his name would be sung throughout the Halls of Asgard (well, more than it was already that is. Many were the tales of the valor attributed to Zachary Thorrson, the Chosen of Odin. He had fought great battles and defeated incredible foes (even Asmodeus himself had fled from the clerics' Holy Might)).

Zachary found a comfortable spot to rest upon and began his daily meditation to Odin. He knew not when the conflict would start to defeat the Hunger, but he planned to be well-prepared.

ooc: This character is arriving from Lord Shield's Bar and will be setting shop in this thread as a sage [albeit a very unusual one].

Myron Epimetheus

The pile of crumpled paper next to him has grown very high but still he scribbles his notes on the little white napkins which are so wonderful for the writing down of things. All the while he mutters quietly as he pursues the ideas he finds in his book. Pausing a moment for the turning of a page something catches his attention and he grows still, truly still for the first time since he descended from his room. “Yes, yes,” he whispers, “there is a change coming. The name of IronWorks is receding in strength and something new, something called Escape is moving into its place.” Setting down his book he reaches into the folds of his robe and pulls out a moldering leather scroll case. His lifeless fingers carefully withdraw an ancient scrap of parchment as he mutters in an obscure tongue about the perils attendant on the shifting of names. Reading the scroll he softly intones the formula of incantation is bears and concentrates.

“Of course, of course,” he mutters, “the inner forums would indeed be the likely place. But they must hurry for there is very little time. Why there is so much to study here! So many new things to learn if only one had the time in which to learn them. It is always the case, there is never enough time for the learning of the things one would dearly like to learn.” Opening the portable hole stitched into his robe pocket, he quickly shoves his piled notes within it. He then whispers another incantation, one which draws the remaining little square napkins within the bar – so wonderful they are for the writing of things – to his table where he might put these as well into his strangely deep pocket. Another command is spoken and his satchel of books is with him. The feeble little man who is not alive stands up then, muttering still about the wonderful opportunity for learning that this is and how happy he is to have come downstairs. His dry and dead fingers reach into a pouch and he absently leaves a pair of large gems on the table to pay for the warm drink he had enjoyed.

Walking with his shuffling gait toward the door, he opens another book and turning its dog-eared pages finds the words he was seeking. He speaks them and in doing so leaves Lord Shield's for another recently started story where there is something he would very much like to study.

ooc: Myron is an undead sage. He is exceedingly knowledgeable but also quite mad. He is a scholar and not an adventurer and is essentially harmless.

Brendon Grey

Brendon saw the men coming. They were coming to clense the Forums of the Hunger that had infested the place after the Mage that was Mad was thrown down. Eagerly, he ran out to meet them as they were joining together.

"Well met, friends! You do not know me, but my name is Brendon Grey. I have come to offer my sword to the cause in which ye fight. May I join with you?"

OOC>>>Let it suffice to say that Brendon is directing his question to Sir Morguerat, who he esteems hightly from what he read about him and his torments against the Modding Mage. Also within hearing distance are Dantes, Ruby, and Zachary Thorrson. Myron Epimetheus seems to have not appeared to the group yet.

Cyril...I am fine with the weaponry I have now, but if you want to bestow upon me more than this...I would like the oportunity to win or find additional items. More about my character can be asked via PM, if needed.

OOC: Back after a weekend without internet access

IC: A voice comes from behind Brendan

"Why don't you tell us, who you are - then perhaps we can better decide."

The speaker is standing leaning on a tower shield. His face is obscured by a helmet with a lowered visor - only a large beard can seen protuding beneeth it.
He has a axe fastned to hos belt - its handle nearly reaching the ground. The image he presents is of a dwarf - until his height is taking into consideration. He is too tall, although he's quite short by human standards.
