I don't know, but I don't think so. Because for example (*I think*), if you are fighting something like a sprite that just cast Eye for Eye on itself and use Dracon Breath to attack it, the breath is not reflected back. (I usually don't have a dracon or the spell, so I'm not totally sure). So if the game is consistent with regard to physical attacks that mimic magical attacks, then Soul Shield should not protect against insanity when ant venom is the carrier.

Stuff like that is a bit tricky. I'm not sure myself how they (the designers) consider stuff like Queen Ant poison that causes insanity. Best bet in any fight where you aren't certain is to get up a soul shield and an element shield pronto.
Note that these spells do stack with each other (probably because soul and element are short term, in-combat only), and also with items that provide individual protections, like the Cloak of Many Colors, various amulets, etc. The only thing to watch out for is that too much protection can be a bad thing. I believe the magic numbr is 255. If a resistance goes higher than that, the numbers wrap around and can become negative. Nasty, very. |

Nightowl2 is correct about the wrap around bug. Just happened to me tonight. Cast a lev 7 Soul Shield and the ninja who was using an enchanted Cane (with +50 divinity) went to a divinity protection of 1 point. You don't see it unless you check your magic protection levels during battle.

@Babar, the game is certainly not consistent in that matter, easy to check if you fight scorchers. That's not reflected either, but element shield keeps you nicely from being fried. I'm fairly sure that the chances of bad status effects are reduced as well, if you get the magic protection up, so in doubt i'd go with nightowl2 (up pronto).
