I think that you should check out George RR Martin's work if you havent already. I think that many people on this board would agree with me. No one is really especially good or bad. It also is very unpredictable in my opinion. Check it out.

Yes, I think you'll enjoy Hobb's writings. There's still a bit of your old 'hero saves the world' routine left (only about as much as there is 'evil armies threaten the world' in Martins' work), but the main characters are relatively everyday and mortal.

Aah, Robin Hobb. What is it about a woman's perspective that always seems to breathe life into a tired and rehashed genre. (Has anyone read 'Clan of the Cave Bear' by Jean M Auel? Do so.) It's funny. It was not that long ago that i was listening to people (on this very forum, mind) bagging Hobb for her take on a genre dominated by male authors. I haven't read all of her works but you can rest assured that i intend to.
