One of the adventures that I can never forget was long long ago, when level 10 had not even been dug out all the way, and level 11 was in the planning stages.

I do not even remember who I was travelling with, but there we were on level 9, facing the Big Red. Nothing I had would injure the beast at all, nor could my two companions. We were sitting there, stuck with no chance to escape nor move onward, toward the place where the portal would be built later. There was one chance. A guy that had travelled with us eariler and had signed off on a eariler level had just signed back on and was far behind us. There was nothing to do but wait for him to save us. We kept yelling at him to hurry, and he tried to get there as fast as he could. When he finally got there, he helped defeat the dragon and move us onward.

It is hard to forget that one.

Larry, that's what I like about Undermountain..someone always there to lend a hand!

I had Amarylis, my ranger/aa out and about one evening and ended up in the storerooms in skullport. I accidentally landed her down with the Lizardmen and she died about as fast as they could look at her.. several times! I'd read that there was a secret, one way door to level 10 and I was sure I'd just found it.
So I left her dead a few minutes, trying to figure out what to do- whether to keep letting her die or just quit and come back with another character. Amarylis was my highest level pc and she was probably only in the teens somewhere (I'm not sure if she was higher than 14? 15? or so at the time) when she landed there.

Well, I respawned her and saw the portal... OH JOY, I thought.. there IS a way out! And promptly leaped from the frying pan into the level 10 fire! LOL About that time, I realized that the portal I'd just gone through was the 'point of no return' portal! LOL!

Animal's Nadril shouted hi to everyone and asked where people were in the Undermountain, so after respawing poor Amarylis a few more times, I shouted out that I was dying in the level after the Lizardman area where I'd fallen by mistake. He came down and we fought our way back up to earlier levels ( I recall some nasty bone golems or skeletons of some sort.. they didn't go down easily!).

Most memorable of this event was fighting the top wizard of level 4....oh my.. now THAT was a tough fight! Amarylis used most of her wands and potions and scrolls, died a few times and ended up dropping her bow when picking up loot...so I ran back to find the bow and guess who'd respawned? And guess what silly ranger waltzed up and tweaked the High Mucky Muck's nose without realizing that if she spoke to him she'd be in trouble? Yup... you got it.. my Amarylis... and poor Nadril came back to fight that fight all over again with her!

I still remember the reluctant heroes of lvl 8, when some uber guy found out he couldn't whip the green, and led her out of the stump?, or tower she lived in, and released her onto lvl 8. We had just decided that we weren't going to fight her, and were heading for the portal to lvl 9, and came around the last corner, and there she was, none too happy about being lost in the woods. This was the same time that we learned that haste or no haste, chars with little stubby legs can't out run dragons. We also learned that if they can see you, they will keep trying to get you, even if they don't fit through the path you took, and that it takes a lot of arrows to kill dragons, even with an aa. We died many times, until we got into the raksasha corner, and she couldn't get to us, then it was the shoot until your arms were lead, trying to kill her time. Good thing for us that she'd previously used up her heals, and after what seemed like an hour, she finally died. It was both our finest, and most shocking moment, at the same time. I know my jaw hit the key board when we walked around the corner, and there was the green.

I have told this story before and it always makes me laugh back in Undermountain BSV (Before Server Vault) I was taking my dwarven defender for a stroll around level 12. All of a sudden I heard curses and shouts comming from the Cult of the Dragon cave.

I stumbled across a lone warrior whose armour and sword must have been given to him by the gods (think UBER) his sword had the ability to suck the life out of anyone it touched (think on hit: harm)

He just happened to be fighting the dracolich on that level and for some reason he could not kill it with his god given weapons.

It turns out that his on hit Harm spell was healing the dracolich everytime it was hit.

I fell to the floor laughing as this fool was cursing that this server was unfair and doesn't play by the rules and it just plain sucks.

Almost the funniest moment for me in Undermountain. The funniest being the brownie incident (as it shall now be called)

I remember recently (my first character I think) decided to try for level 12, and Animal was down there somewhere, I saw this hallway, and decided to go down it, well, all of a sudden it got pitch black, and she was falling over dead in seconds, and I could not find what was hitting me. well about that time I dropped my axe that someone gave me, and no longer had any weapons to fight with, all I could do was shout out a few curse words as I fell. Animal niceness that he is, came to my rescue...then the smart person that she was, decided to go into a cave....well needless to say poor Animal spent the entire night saving her rear

We could ask Larry about some of those rescue stories, back when lvl 10 was still *shiny? new*, and before you had to have a key to take the shortcuts. Have seen a lot of dead people back in the local vault days, mostly me dead, currently, but I'm sure that will eventually change, as I have time between building, and dm responsibilities. The one thing that I've noticed hasn't changed, and this has been commented on before, is the team work, and not just with IW members either, I've met lots of interesting people crawling through those dungeons. Still play in other worlds with some of them, and it's great that these servers can bring so many diverse people together, as a team!

Been involved in many a mission to rescue the damsel in distress

Scooping Stormy's shield from underneath her in the Lake of Shadows was quite funny (at least from my point of view)

Standing in the middle of the Inn while in Dragon form to see what kind of a reaction you can get from someone walking into the Inn. I'm pretty sure a couple of low level, newer players soiled themselves

Deciding to attack the first Drow guard I came upon on my first trip to level 13. You'd be surprised at just how many drow are actually down there.

Leading one of the tougher drow out of the proving grounds into the temple on 13, having him attack Stormy and then leaving.

Although I didn't personally see it, Cloudy was wandering around with a naked guy for a while. That seemed to start a streaking session at Durnan's

The foray into the Trollbark Dungeon with rattler was great. We figured divide and conquer, so we split the room into two and tore it apart. Definately the toughest battle I've been in.

Godisnak and Ta'rant running amok through level 12. We layed some serious smack down!

The famous encounter with Big Red on 10 was great, teamwork at it's finest.

I don't remember who fed Choc the catnip in the Inn, but that was quite funny.

The list goes on...
