Another item that will come in handy is the Ring of Human Influence from the Circus in Waukeen's Promenade. It allows you to attempt to Charm one person per day.
Since it sounds as if you're getting close to the Slaver's Stronghold, this could be invaluable in that first major fight. Use your ring to "charm" the main fighter in that room, then have him attack the mage. I alwasy try to target the fighter-types with charm because they usually have a lower intelligence and wisdom than the spellcasters. They also have more hit points and better attacking capability, so let THEM take out the opposing spellcasters. This will cause the mage to focus his spells on his former pal instead of you. Even if the fighter loses, the mage will have used up a lot of his spells and probably have taken a fair amount of damage in the process. Also, any "enemies" close to the "charmed" person automatically attack him instead of you. My solo bard relied VERY heavily on Dire Charm through the early encounters of the game and I still keep at least one spell memorized - just in case I need it again. ![]()

Well, i fineshed off Mae'var with no difficulty at all.
Here's how i did it --- I stood outside the guildhall, and hid in the shadows. As the effect didn't wear off quick enough upon me entering, i was able to walk through the first floor without trouble. Enter the basement. I placed 2 snares at the end of the corridoor, (the 3rd failed) and walked down to mae'var who attacked me. I led him down to my snares and he was hit my both, and then a single arrow of fire from my assasin fineshed him. The others came down, and i hit them with my Poison Wepon + Arrow of Biting combo.(from now on reffered to as AOBPW)They each took a single arrow, and were all 'Badly Injured', so i ran round the corner to avoid taking several arrows myself, and as they came round one by one, i shot them dead. I now have a shiney new shortsword, (shortsword of backstabbing) and shiney new armour. (shadow armour)I turned down my stronghold, as i'd rather have a decent wepon to fight with, and be able to pay Gaelen or [Other contact], seeing as i've already done that stronghold before. Gear etc etc Shadow Armour Shortsword of backstabbing Tuigan bow + Arrows of fire, Biting, Dispelling, arrows +1. Mercykiller Ring Ring of Regeneration Gloves of pick-pocketing Boots of Stealth Potions of invisibility, Healing, Oils of speed, Potion of mastery theivery. Level 12, * in shortsword, short BOW, darts, and others that i don't remember Soon going onto get the 'Ring of human influence', 'Cloak of the sewers' and 'Boots of Speed'. Good Job, TGTF!!!
Are you running Tactics Mod, though? I only ask because the Tactics version of Mae'var was a LOT tougher for my assassin and his group. No disrespect to you OR your game if you aren't running Tactics....I'm just curious. Either way, it's still a job well done. Speaking of the "Sword of Backstabbing", I used to get SOOOO frustrated with that particular weapon. I kept thinking my thief was getting a weapon to increase his chances to backstab, only to find out it was nothing more than a generic +2 sword. So I had another member make a REAL "Sword of Backstabbing" for me. It gives a 25% bonus to you HIS and MS scores AND increases your Backstab multiplyer by 1!!! So that means my assassin will eventually do 8X damage with his Backstab!!!! ![]() ![]()

Heh, thanks for the approval, and no i'm not running tactics. I was going to, but forgot completly when i started. And btw, the 'Sword of Backstabbing' is +3, apparantly. Hmm, i prefer your SoB i think might have to make it for myself, thanks for the idea
Anywhoo, The Cirucs. --- This wasn't at all difficult, i sneaked past the first room, killing Aerie and the orcs in the process, snook past the 2nd room, and used an oil of speed, and AOBPW on Kalah, while running out of reach of his minions. Easy ring, and easy belt, which is nice as i didn't have one on. Next stop, the Slaver Stockade. I think i'm going to struggle a bit, should make an interesting post.

Not too hard I'd think, just HiS and have a PoI(potion of invsiblity) on your quickslot, backstab the guy with the two handed sword (whats his name anyway?) drink the potion and stab again..
That's two free hit's, if you use posion weapon you could probably take him out before he does any damage, then use your bow and arrows on the rest and HiS or another PoI while the damage tick's up.

You might want to try that Short Sword that can cast "mirror image"
@Q'alooaith: you can't backstab with a non-thief weapon. I don't know if you can poison one though. BTW, since you're evil, if you're surrounded by baddies, don't hesitate to use "Horror"

[EDIT] Yeah i know about that hasty sword, although i was just gonna sell it, as i will have no need for it. [ 12-09-2004, 05:03 PM: Message edited by: TheGodThatFailed ]

FFS..
I said "backstab the guy with the two handed sword" Not "use the two handed sword the backstab the guy" I was using the two handed sword to pick out the named char in the stockade rather than suggesting that a low level assasin (who does not have any HLA's) use a two handed sword. Also there's a shortsword with let's you move uinder imp haste for 12 seconds, not a lot of time, but HiS and then use it for extra backstab goodness.

I cleared out the slaver Stockade, and have decided to give a 'Story' account, instead of my usual layout, a story is much more fitting for such an epic fight.
Beatrix Blackfoot, Halfling assasin, had always hated slavers. She was enslaved as a child and escaped, only just, by using her murderous mind, to poison her masters food, and escape. She has always had a way with poison, and now uses it to deadly effect on arrows...She is now in athkatla, and isn't happy with the local slavers... *** She entered through the bottom of their stronghold, via the sewers. She enetered, and was approached by a man with a large sword. Beatrix didn't hesitate to throw off an arrow, but her attempt to hit the man failed. She fled to the dewers as the 'swordy' one, and 2 other gaurds followed. She was ready as they came down the steps, and was already hiding. She fired off an arrow of her deadly combo, AOBPW, and hit the leader in the eye.(to demonstarte a critical hit) She ran into the shadows, and dissapeared. "Captain Heagan, are you alright sir?!" paniced one of his men. "I assure you, he isn't..." Beatrix's voice rang out. "Once you've been hit with one of THOSE arrows, there's nothing you can do..." The men stood back to back, and began to edge towards the wall. An erie shadow sped across the floor. Captain Haegan turned, "Come out and fight like a---" he began, but his sentance ended in a gurgle, as blood dripped from his mouth. His body fell, a blademark in his back, and, the remaining men caught a breif glimse of their hunter before she vanished into shadow. "You can't hide forever, halfling!" "Oh, but i can, and i will if need be. You will never see me coming, and you will fall, one by one," As the men edged away from the wall, yet another arrow whizzed from nowhere into one of the mens legs. The poison spred quickly, and as he lay bleeding, he died. The last man fled in terror, but met an unpleasant end as he ran into a large group of hobgoblins. Beatrix set down some traps next to the stairway, and poisoned her arrows again. She went up, alerted another 3 men, and led them to their slaughter. The traps both hit the same slaver, ending his life quickly, painfully, and effitiantly. Beatrix was forced to flee as she was rushed by angry men twice her height with swords, yet again, escaped. To hunt her out, they went seperate ways round a large box. They came into view of each other, just intime for one man to see a blade peirce through the other silently. Beatrix had gone before the body hit the floor. "Like sheep to the slaughter..." her cold voice echoed throughout the passageways. The last man ran, right onto a cloudkill trap, so that was the end of him. Beatrix went up into the slaver stronghold once again, and managed to shoot a poisoned arrow at a preist before he cast. She used a key she took of Haegan's body to unlock the doors when the slaves were kept, "Go, now, don't make me change my mind about this..." she rasped. The final encounter of the night was Beatrix and two mages. They stoneskinned, but she hit them BOTH with arrows of dispelling, which was that gone. Then they both took an AOBPW and fell. She went back to the sewers, and said toi herself, "I love the smell of battle. The aftermath of the slaughter. The smell of blood, death, and Victory." Sorry for poor spelling (probably poor) and lots of mistakes (i'm guessing) and hope you enjoyed that. I enjoyed the battle itself, it truley was slaughter and it took me ssoo long to write that.More updates soon.
