As Clonin charges in his heavy footsteps making the ground beneath his hooves shudder with the force of a fierce battle trained and hardened warhorse, as the knight saw the mottled crest and bear-shark like creature he lowered his lance and turned Clonin towards the beast, to his credit Clonin did as he was bid, by his onetime bonded master, and now the one he was bonded to through a mystical spell that allowed them to share senses and strengthen each other, it also allowed the knight to transfer some of his battle training and strength of will preventing the panic that would have long overcome lesser mounts.

As Clonin charged in the Lance struck home (rolled a 16 to hit - 25 points damage - 3d6 for large = 10 dam x2 for a charge +5 str) and Morguerat dropped his lance and rolled to the ground after Clonin thundered out of the blackened cloud, attempting to regain his footing.

OOC: (Cyril I'll leave it up to if(how much) i took damage from leaping from a warhorse in full charge, and the exact effects on my further conmabt effectiveness)

The rumble of the heavy horse’s charge bursts into hearing. It is a mighty sound that rises above even the angry bellowing roar of the creature. Were the creature able to move normally it would have met this charge with a leaping attack of its own. But as it is the wounded and slowed creature cannot do so much as avoid the impact of the lance which pierces its armor. The lance itself shatters, but it has left a great wound and the creature bellows in pain and confusion. The wounds it has sustained, both large and small, have left it spent and exhausted and even were the grip of the magic not holding its limbs in a strange lethargy, physical punishment alone would suffice to slow it.

ooc: Morguerat - The fall inflicts 5 points of damage – you landed well – and you’ll need to spend a round recovering your bearings. It should not matter, however, as Syrathic - the killing blow is yours. Go ahead and finish this critter off.

For a moment, Zachary can only stand and stare at his retreating companions. "I've really got to consider getting a mount of some kind myself" he thinks. Well, no time for that now. He sets off jogging back towards the fight as best he can in is armor. "Praise be to Odin for the magic in this armor. At least it doesn't weigh half as much as a regular suit of plate." All the Norse gods admired physical strength and endurance in their worshippers, so Zachary was in good shape for a cleric....and the Boots of Speed on his feet also helped. Still, he feared that whatever danger his newfound companions were facing would be over and done with long before he arrived. He concentrated on maintaining a steady pace, rather than running as fast as he could. Experience had taught him that a slightly slower pace could be maintained longer without leaving one out of breath to cast with once he arrived.

OOC> Sorry for the late arrival. I've had a few r/l matters to deal with recently.
Cyric - I'll let you determine how long it takes Zachary to arrive using Boots of Speed and wearing enchanted armor. I doubt there will be much left of the monster by the time I arrive, but maybe I can get a parting shot in. At the very least, the M*A*S*H* unit will be making a timely arrival.

Brendon

Brendon had managed to pull himself along at a considerable rate to his travel bag that he'd left behind on the wild run into the melee of battle. Grabbing at the bag as eagerly as a child looking for candy, he found the prize he was looking for. A simple healing potion. He drank the contents and felt the effects begin to work from the inside-out. He breated easier now...and seemed that his punctered lung was already feeling better.

OOC>>>I believe it would be okay to say that this healing potion restores 10HP. That puts me at 46/70.

Syrathic watched as the mage's spell hit the creature. The elf did not know magic, but it seemed that the beast had been slowed. "Very nice." He then watched as a knight of some sort on a large warhorse charged the beast. The man lowered a heavy war-lance and opened a gaping wound in the creature. The elf smiled. "This is my chance," he thought.

With a loud elven warcry, Syrathic charged the beast. Even in the new darkness, he was able to see the beast clearly. The long sword in his right hand found the flesh of the wound and the creature bellowed in pain. The long sword in his left hand followed suit, piercing deep into the beast's body, drawing a gush of blood that landed on the elf's cloak. The creature groaned again and fell to the ground with a loud thud, dust and dirt flying up as it landed. It continued to thrash as the elf thrusted again with his magically hasted arms, drawing even more blood, until the creature ceased to move.

Syrathic smoothly withdrew his swords, the beast's blood still dripping from the blades. He produced a cloth from within his cloak and wiped the blades clean before resheathing them, the long swords disappearing beneath his cloak. He then took a moment to adjust his hood, which had moved only slightly during the entire battle and still made it impossible to see most of his face. "Thank you for your help," he said to the newcomers. "But next time, could you perhaps arrive a little sooner?"

The elf made a great show of dusting himself off as if nothing had happened to him, but the blood on his hands was impossible to miss. The blood on his cloak flowed off, as if it were stain repellent. Finally, he sat down on the ground outside the creature produced darkness, the dark blue cloak closed protectively around him, his left hand pressed hard against a wound on his body. "I am Syrathic," he said to the newcomers, as if that told the entire story.

ooc: Thanks for the honor, Cyril! I guess after all the damage Brendon and I took, it was fitting that one of us would get in the killing blow.

Ruby, let's just hope that Raymond is Brendon's middle name. Hopefully, Larry would never forget the name of his character, especially since he typed it twice during his post!

watching the scene before them wyrd slows to a trot as they approach. ruby gracefully hops from his back without either of them slowing the pace. she looks at the stranger in the dark cloak and responds to his admonishment, "i'm sorry i didn;t listen to wyrd. i had no idea til dantes started rushing back. fool me." she looks down at her feet, and strokes wyrd, *i am sorry, love, but i don;t think i would have wanted you against that creature anyway.*

Zachary finally arrives at the battle-scene, only to find the fight long over with just as he had feared. Ah well, no glory for Odin this time. Still, I can tend to any wounds the others may have suffered. He looks around and sees Brendan holding his side where blood is still seeping through the wound. From the pallor of the ranger's face, Zachary can guess the wound must be a serious one. He mentally recalls the appropriate curative spell and begins calling on Odin to heal the ranger.

He finishes the spell just before he reaches Brendan. The ranger notices a strange blue "glow" around the cleric's hands and backs away a step without realizing it. "Not to worry," Zachary says "this spell will have you feeling good as new and ready face the next challenge in no time." The cleric reaches out and gently lays his hand on the huge gash in Brendan's side. The "magical glow" seems to flow from the cleric's hands into the wound, bringing warm, soothing relief to the pain and staunching the flow of blood. Brendan stares wide-eyed as the skin literally seals itself back together. As the glow fades, there is no visible sign of the gaping wound that was there just a moment ago. He also feels a surge of strength returning to his tired limbs.

"There now....right as rain on a summer morn". Zachary turns to the rest of the group. "Is anyone else injured?"

Brendon Grey

Feeling well and greatful, Brendon quickly got up and bowed low to the cleric.

"Sir, allow me to thank you for the healing! I only had one small bottle of potion that did no more than warm my belly...but you have saved me! I do not deserve it. My foolish error should have been the death of me!"
