Try a Mordekainen's Sword, I know this works for me.

Odd since, the sword is not actually alive.

No problemo. THough I still don't get why tossing a non-living piece of metal - even if enchanted - before the Demogorgon statute should count as a sacrifice. Something living, like cernd's baby, would be much more appropriate.
