Seriously though, it could have been even more bizarre. Stewart was planning to put 9 players fielding by the gate with just him and the bowler in the middle. Now that would be a first.

I saw the events at Headingley yesterday and I have to say it was an amazing bit of sportsmanship by England and obviously the correct decision, BUT...

Considering that it was the other team's "fans" who caused the problems it really ought to have been them to concede. They should be dismissed from the tournament (Australia should win by default) and not be allowed to play again (at least in this country) until they learn to control their fans. That's what would happen if it were reversed... just my 2 pence.

Or possibly Alec Stewart had money on Pakistan to win in that over

You mean to say the fix was on and no-one told me . Then again, I couldn't have got very good odds on Pakistan beating England now could I (what, 2 to one on?? ). Nice way to get those off topic people back and focussed on the reality that is the Ashes Memmie. First challenge for OZ is the qualification for the next stage of the world cup - go those mighty Socceroos .

And how did that British hero Tim Henman go against tiny Leyton Hewitt. Our guy wouldn't have stood much of a chance after battling through 3 sets against Sampras would he .

Now, do we have "eny Soud Afrikans" - how did Retieff Goosen manage to not wing the US Open Golf from that position

Hmmmmm, I thought this was a Rugby thread. Yeah ok we lost again, but only because they cheated by getting all their supporters to run on at the right time. It's not like they would have mad the target.....

Anyway, quite an important Lions match tommorow, any predictions? The Lions team doesn't look very much like the side that will play the tests. Having said that I don't think any player has been ruled out, I bet Graham Henrys' getting a real headache. It will get worse if Dallaglio, Quinell and a few others play well.

Going back to Saturdays match, have you seen this picture
Both props at arms length - now that's impressive. I wouldn't read the rest of the articles, I suspect they might be slightly biased . I think they need to play a lot better, and will play a lot better yet.

One more thing, what do you Aussies make of this

So everything is going swimmingly. It may yet prove that these early matches are some kind of fool's paradise, and it must never be forgotten that Australia's really big battleships have not yet sailed out of port. The likes of John Eales and George Gregan have been invisible to the tourists. However, the mood among the party is so positive that nobody wants to miss a second of the action. Enter, on Tuesday, a frustrated Dallaglio
Ha, thought I would cut out an excerpt from your link. As we all know now , the mighty Lions were humbled by the Australia A combination. This was easily the strongest side that they have encountered thus far, and was always expected to be the biggest test outside of "the Tests" themselves. We actually for the first time, had participation from a few people who will be sitting on the benches for the Wallabies. I gather though, that they were up against a mostly "bench" combination from the Lions. I think the Lions tests should be "close fought" and exciting affairs

Well I hope they will be anyway, because that will make up for the lack of opposition when Steve Waugh's boys sweep the Ashes series again .

I haven't seen the match yet, but I have it on tape and will watch it soon. 1 thing you're right about though - It was really a Lions A/B side, with the exception of a couple of players. From what I've heard we didn't play too well either, and I think maybe a few people will have been ruled out of the test side. Anyway losing that might give us a bit of kick up the backside, I thnk we were mainly coasting before.

It was still a good side though, Australia A did well to... urgggg hate to say it *swallows pride... win.

I'm quite fine thank you - so nice of you to ask.

Are you watching the cricket? It's very exciting - lots of runs. I'm leaving work now to watch it at the pub. Cheerio!
