I am on the first mage quest at the serpent temple, found the mage who gave me the key, and found 2 rooms that I can get into. One has a switch, the other has nothing. There is another gate that I cannot open. I am in need of some assistance...just a hint, please...not a spoiler.

There are two Serpent Holds which can be opened by the key given by serpent mage, and a gate between them which maybe opened later in the game. Just explore these serpent holds and explore temple further.

I went in the water in the serpent hold and got a statue...when I walk around the rest of the temple I can't find anything to do.

I killed the Serpent Mage and 3 doors near him opened right up.
