Once you start playing tiny parties, you need a little practise now and then. Especially if you want your Solo to have enough various skills to handle all the tasks in the game.

Is there a trainer that works (one that a retard like me can use)? I downloaded 1 or 2 so that I could artificially bump up lockpicking, but I could never get them to work.

BTW, I personally hate training because it takes soooooo long! Training lockpicking is the only thing I hate about this game.

Other skills I usually do not need to train because they go up relatively fast during combat.

Hmmm...I have never overtly "trained" my Bard in lock picking - just had him inspect and open every lock I have come across during the game and added to his skill at level up. Of course, I did not use Myles to open locks, either - only the Bard. He's got 80% skills and has encountered no lock that he can't pick readily - with the help of a Knock Pick, at times.

As far as Traps - he did all the work in this game. He sometimes sets off the trap, but they hardly ever affect the party. Again - no overt "training".

@Griefmaker:

There're a number of character editors around (just do a Google search and you should find a few good ones). These let you change anything about a character, including stats.

@Scatter

The smaller parties I've played haven't really needed training. I find that, because each character has to do more, everyone goes up very nicely if you just leave them to it. Of course, my solo Faerie Ninja might have benfitted from some training early on - sometimes I'm too stubborn for my own good!

I just put three points per level into my Gadgeteer's Locks & Traps skill right from the start, and gave her a Thieves' Buckler (bonus to L&T) when I found one. Never had any real problems with locks or traps in the game.

I think I had another character cast Divine Trap a couple of times when my lockpicker was doubtful about some components of a trap, but other than that she did just fine on her own.

Keep in mind that the Locks & Traps skill depends on both Intelligence and Dexterity; if one or both of those is low, that will hurt your character's performance with locks and traps.

See the "Rogue with dodgy lockpicking skills" thread for a recent discussion.
