Hello everyone! I'm brand new to this forum AND this game. Wizardy8 was givin to me from a friend, I've been waiting for the handbook but have just found out he has apparantly lost it!!!GRRRR!!!!I started to play the other day and am slowly realizing is difficult to learn all the gadgets on my own! I have a simple party from the list given...and only one alchemist. I dont know what to do with items in my inventory highlighted in 'red'. Nor do I know what a cursed object means or is???I have figured out how to cast spells, combat, use bombs ect on my opponents an those types of things. I am just now on Arnika road and getting my butt kicked!!!!LOL If anyone has ANY tips for survival It would be greatly appreciated. Any little things I just might have overlooked to learn on my own. THANK YOU -Naudia

If an item in you're pack is red it normally means that that character can't use it. Simply give it to someone else and the red tinge should go away. If something's cursed that means it's bad luck. You generally can't unequip cursed items without magical help and their generally not as good as other things you'd rather be using. On the survival front, keep you're weakest characters in the middle. If you've worked out how to use the formation controls you'll live a lot longer. The formation panel in the bottom right hand corner of the screen is a button. Clicking on it will bring up the formation box and you can move characters around in a limited sort of way. You can do this during combat but it takes effect at the end of the round (so if someone get's badly hurt move them away from danger before the round ends ).Also, just like the dreaded might and magic games, try to get everyone a ranged weapon soon. It saves on frustrated characters.

some cursed items are actually quite nice, esp. if you can counteract any negs it might have...
You can also hug walls as you go, looking for sharp corners you can back into for combat if you keep your weakest chars in the back. Fighting in corners also reduces the number of enemies that can attack, and more of them stay in cone spell range. |

Oh yes, rest in corners to avoid being surrounded. Here's something I haven't tried yet (and I'd advise you not to), if you get ambushed whilst resting is one character always awake and does that make one member parties immune to midnight raids? Don't try this one at home.

Naudia, if you have spellcasters in your party, the signature below might be of interest to you.
Enjoy!

Balgin, it's random who gets to be awake and who doesn't when you're attacked while sleeping. I would guess that a character with High Senses is less likely to be surprised, but again, that's a guess. After you've gotten to level 11 and have a good enough skill, get the Shadow Hound Spell. It lasts a LONG time after you cast it and it will make sure everyone wakes up when attacked.
That's a good way to get exp. Cast Shadow hound and camp a lot in crowded areas. When you're attacked while sleeping, the monsters are always right on top of you so you don't have to run at them and let them get a few free shots on you. This is also a tactic to use if you see a group of monsters in the distance you want to fight, but you think they may kick your butt from range, or while you're trying to close the distance.... just camp and boom, they're right there in front of you, ready to die.
