Has ANYONE out there read the Planescape book Pages of Pain? I was wondering if it was any good for a die-hard planescape fan like me. Does it really reveal all that the description in the D&D homepage says?

Sure... Planescape is quite a bit like any other world, only alot more can happen. In fact, ANYTHING can happen, expecially since it can take place in any world, in any kind of setting. Planescape takes place mostly in the a variety of settings and worlds known as planes (kind of like seperate dimensions). You travel around the planes through portals and vortexes, and everything connects in one place eventually. That place is Sigil, located in the heart of the outlands. Anyway...enough with the sales pitch. Planescape is a really great setting since it allows DMs and players alike a new oppurtunity to do anything they can think up.

Yes, Planescape is an excellent setting, but I will caution you; the planes are the homes of the most nasty forms of demons and devils imaginable and can quite easily render a strong adventuring party to ashes. Thaske did a fairly good job of explaining the skinny of it, but if you want a really good picture, buy the Planescape Boxed Set or borrow it from someone who has it. It may seem a little daunting at first, but TSR did a good job of making the planes accessible to your average Player Character.

Thanks guys.It seems that an infinite amount of adventures could be made in the Planescape universe.About that box set.I dont play pen and paper but I intend to take it up when the third rules come out.I used to play Warhammer (shame on me) and I remember how long it took me to learn the rules for it.So I was wondering how long will it take for me to learn the rules for D&D since its obviously more complex?Does anybody have a rough estamate?

Nick,
I've read through the new rules and they're not that over the top, similar to the 2nd edition ones and a little more complex than Warhammer. The hard part is remembering what all the spells do and such. Combat can be a snap once you get the hang of it, and everything else is skill checks. Any exceptions can be made up. Expect to read the entire book about 6-8 hrs, and refer constantly. Took me about that long, but I picked up on Wharhammer/40K/Necromunda/Gothic/etc in no time, so good luck. Cheers. Ineluki |
