Im obviously missing something here. Is there a walkthru on BG somewhere? Im not sure what to do next. I have (I think) explored everything south of the bridge to Baldurs gate but cant cross the bridge. They soldier wont let me cross and I cant figure out what Ive missed.

Have you found the Bandit Camp yet? Easiest way is to beat upon Tranzig in Feldpost's Inn, or you can have a word with the Black Talon leaders in a couple of the more remote areas.

After the bandit camp you will be able to access some new areas, and eventualy Baldur's Gate will be accesible.

its a bit cheesy - especially as you can slaughter the boss baddies over about 2 or 3 days if you like and then wander out of the tent, shake the blood off your sword, chat to the "guards" and walk away!

Provided the one dying has a red circle and was not hit with his own spell, he should give you full experience points for dying. What I like to do is try to charm two or more of them at a time and focus fire on one of them. That way, I have a chance at getting a kill off with my charmed people. If they manage to survive the other two, I just have myself and one of my charmed people attack the other, to help make sure that one goes down first. You could also just use yourself to prevent the off chance that your charmed person goes down fighting, but charm them all so that you can take them on one at a time.
