I still haven't used most of them I'm somewhat ashamed to say. This is due in part to multiple starts to see how a particular character class fares, and attemtps to solo the game with different characters. I suppose the most ambitious NPC choice to date is the inclusion of Quayle as a replacement for Viconia - a very poor trade-off - though one I made for role play reasons.

I quite like Xzar and Montaron. They're effective enough if used and equipped properly. It is true though that the problem with the thiefly types is the lack of control over ability point disposition.

For me the biggest reason not to take an NPC isn't alignment, class, stats, disposition, starting spells, thief skills or voice, the real decider for me is the amount of time it has taken me to get to the position of actually recruiting some of them. By then, I've spent so much time building up each character, I feel slightly agrieved that I might have to drop them to take another one just for the sake of completeness. I probably will one day, just not now.

I've not taken too many parties far into the game. I've met all of the NPCs, and most I don't mind (though Faldorn is horrendously ugly), but these three are the most regretful. The first two I regret existing. The last one I regret not using enough.

Skie. I brought her into a party once. Once. It was... traumatic. It was all I could do not to butcher her in the street. I departied Eldoth for bringing that loathesome, petulant trash into my presence. His punishment: Being bound to her for eternity! MWHAAHAHA!! Put another way, she's worse than Noober.

Imoen. Can't stand her. She stalks me. Won't leave me be. I'm quite convinced she's Warriv in drag. (Warriv stalked me in another wildly popular, though wildly overrated, CRPG/dungeoncrawl/thing.)

Alora. I'm with Butterfingers on Alora. She's a pip! Though I never used her for very long, she's a definite favorite of mine. "Hop skip to it!" Hehehe. So spirited. Such a sweet little lass.

Xzar - Perhaps the most underrated NPC. He is precious, but Iīve never played anything but good parties, and thus had him only a short time.

Alora - Got annoyed with her right away. She isnīt very impressive stats wise.

Garrick - Never found any use for him. He is too much of a Jack-Of-All-Trades.

Faldorn - Never found her. Although I dont play this game anymore, can someone hint where she was?

Branwen - Didnīt turn her to flesh.. I regret it now, having her instead of Jaheira would have been more interesting choice.

Most used party:

Minsc
Dynaheir
Imoen
Khalid (or Kivan)
Jaheira

I know, I lack creativity. This post inspires me. I need to start a new game and try the ones I havenīt met.. Woohoo!

I started a game and had a problem with the disks, and had to start over. My main character's a Ranger. I have Khalid, Garrick, Dynaheir, Imoen and Jaheira. I've done pretty well with them. I finally beat Durlag's Tower and have pretty well run all over Baldur's Gate. When I heard Minsc talking about his chicken or whatever, I decided I didn't want him in my party. Everyone said that he and Dynaheir were a pair. So, when I saved her out of the dungeon, I just never spoke to Minsc again. As a result, I was able to keep Dynaheir w/o Minsc.

Faldorn is one of the shadow druids on the 3rd cloakwood map. She is standing in the 'stonehenge' area at the lower left of the map.

Right now I use:

Minsc
Coran
Branwen
Imoen
Edwin

It is not difficult to break up pairs. In this constellation Edwin is very 'talkative'

Some of the characters I haven't tried yet, but would like to try are:

Xzar, Yeslick, Garrick, Ajantis

I've completed three times now, and I think I chose Jaheria over Branwen every time. *think* Unless I recall onet time using them both.

I've used Edwin and Xzar, and also Montoran (but on occasions let him go and kept Xzar. I've aslo used Xan alot.

Garrick has made very brief appearances.

I've never bothered with Eldoth, Alora, Faldorn, Skie, Quayle, Tiax, Safana or Yeslick or Coran.

I use mostly Minsc, Jaheria, Kivan (by far the greatest NPC), Imoen. Sometimes Branwen. Oh, and how could I forget stuttering Khalid?

Edwin !
Can't stand this guy ! The first games i made, he said to me he wanted to kill dynaheir blabla, i said no blabla, then he disapeared and come back later to attack me.
Now I don't even bother, I just kill him on sight !

Also, I don't like Jaheira and her wussy-husband Khalid. I usually get them to clear Nashkel mines, then I left them naked in any place with a huge probability of Ankheg spawn.

Minsc is my all-time favourite...I think I m in love with the Hamster
