Most spell checkers are considering they change my s's in to z's and Grey to Gray etc.

I'm English dammit.

Yeah, but even if you put a word in and it's spelled a little wrong, it comes up with totally different words.

Well. My English is more important than your English.

That's how it works, don't you know.

LOL I am with you on that. Just last week I finally changed my Firefox dictionary from USA to proper English just go to the Firefox home site and check out all the plug ins they have available. I am going to guess that the Thunderbird site will have the same offerings.

I guess I didn't make myself clear. I'm not getting a US version of the spelling. The spell checker comes up with words that are not even close to what I typed.

I'll look for plug-ins though.

Spell checkers look for something in their dictionary that's close to what you've entered so far. I *suspect* it's done partially through phoneme matching, where the spelling of /ph/ gets mapped to the sound of /f/. It's giving you everything that's close.

So what you really want, I suspect, is a better dictionary, not a better spell checker.

Hmmm... after checking "Variol" in my spellchecker in FF, it came up with nothing starting with "var", and focused just on the "ario" in the middle. Maybe you *do* need a better spellchecker too..

Yeah, I find the word is messed up from the beginning. I use Outlook for work and it does a better job; as much as it pains me to say it.
