Tacked Note About that Darwin Wannabe thread...

Maybe my first post didn't state my feelings clearly enough, so I will correct that.

I find Howard Stern's "material" to be extremely offensive and I don't feel it's appropriate content on a forum with many young members. I also thought profanity was - at the very least - strongly discouraged on IW. Yet the thread title, links and even another post all contain open profanity. I don't feel that is appropriate either.
For the record, the Darwin Wannabe thread was really ended by me, the original poster. It had nothing to do with IW standards, but with my own, as loose as they are.

Some comments made prompted me to look at the video again. At first glance, it was a typical collection of stupid stuff caught on video, and some of those, I'd already seen individually.

At second glance, however, it seemed more than reasonable to me that some of those being filmed died in the process. And while I enjoy seeing people be stupid and have been known to join them on occasion (one day, I'll tell about the Honda and WD-40), I don't enjoy seeing people dying... and I've been known to nearly join them on occasion, too.

So since I wasn't sure, I elected to remove the link to the video. If someone wants to see it, I'm sure they can google for it. Harkoliar had quoted my original post and the link was still active in his post. I asked either him or Z to remove the link. Ziroc did that as well as closing the thread, which was fine by me. Perhaps it should have stayed open for further discussions, but it didn't.

Ziroc also decided to put a self-destruct timer on the thread, and I had no problems with that. Again, perhaps it could have remained around so there was no question about what took place or why, but it didn't.

So, in my mind... stupidity = funny, death = not funny. And that's why I pulled the link. I was going to leave this comment in the other thread , but thought that it would hijack it into a different direction. So this is here, available for comment and discussion as needed.

As for the content and language of the Tape Dubs thread, I leave that to the mods, who I'm sure discuss these kinds of things behind closed doors. I've been known to post things that include cube warnings in the past, and I've also reported posts that I felt crossed the line. I do know that when you report a post (by clicking on that little red rose-like thingy at the bottom left of the post.. hard to find the first time I wanted it!), you can explain why you're reporting the post, as you've done. The mods then get PMs notifying them of the report, and they *do* discuss it internally. Occasionally, I've gotten feedback from a mod about a post. Sometimes they just take whatever action they deem appropriate, including doing nothing.

So with respect to that thread, I'd say report it and state your case, as you've done. And with respect to this thread, let's keep it open and civil. If someone wants to be un-civil, move it to PM.

Them's my

I appreciate the explanation, Bungleau.

One thing I've done in the past and tend to do more now is to speak out and question actions or decisions I either don't understand or disagree with. And I will continue to do that.

I understand that comments or questions are sometimes best sent in PMs, but I feel some issues deserve open discussion and I will continue to do that as well, in a respectful manner, of course.

I've also faced accusations in the past of acting one way in PMs and a different way in public, so I prefer to post my comments publicly whenever possible. That way, any comments I've made are available for all the members to see.

My pleasure, Cerek.

I agree, and I posted this here in a separate thread so discussion could continue here, as opposed to hijacking another thread.

Nope, just adults. And contrary to popular belief, being that and Canadian are *not* mutually exclusive

Yes we are; mostly! You've been around too many Torntonians and Bramptonians.
However, my dad lives in Brampton and is very nice. Stepmonster on the other hand...

Huh? So you're saying that being adult and Canadian *are* mutually exclusive?

I guess that explains the uproar in Canada whenever the Stanley Cup is won by a non-Canadian team...

As for me, having grown up in Detroit, it was Windsorites and Sarnians...
