The problem is growing bigtime especially for those of us that live in big cities. Fortunately it hasn't happend to me but if I am drinking and just making a quick stop for money it is very easy to not look twice at the machine and hurry to catch up with friends at the next club or party. Regardless of how drunk and friendly you're feeling there is no reason for anyone else to be hovering nearby you while you use the machine either. Just a heads up for any who don't know about these scams as reports say they are getting out of hand this holiday season.

ATM card theft is rampant here as well. This one is a popular high tech method employed by thief. A bit scatchy..

First, there's this plastic thing that the thief will put infront of the place where you insert your card. This plastic thing will clone your card. People might not notice anything because this plastic thing looks like it's part of the ATM.

Next, right above the ATM screen/button they'll fix a camera to record your pin number. The camera is so hard to detect because it looks like it's part of the ATM.

With a clone card and your pin number. Your money is gone within a few hours.

Yeah, they do it like this sometimes over here too.

Here's an example of it: http://www.utexas.edu/police/alerts/atm_scam/

I think the one thing to remember is to cover your hand when you enter your pin, as even if the machine is rigged a cloned card is useless without the camera clocking your pin.

Could be wrong tho, anyone care to verify this?

Sure, give me your credit card number and expiration date and I'll see what I can do.

A very good PIN is a simple one that is easy to remember, only made in a slightly different way, to make it difficult to others to guess.

For example my pin is 1111, only upside down.
