He is not involved with any quests - just kill the evil little bugger

Use plenty of summons, charm who you can before the battle, and make use of Stoneskin and Iron Skins.

SPOILER
Their saving throws are really low. They fall prey easily to stinking cloud. The mages also have very low hp. Cloudkill and a well-aimed fireball will be enough to to take them out. If you're good you can get those off without ever coming into their line of sight. Just send a lone invis mage up and cast away. I killed everyone but Pebblecrusher before his dialogue was even triggered. Try holding or dominating the guy by the door, or peg him with arrows and get him to chase you downstairs to your waiting fighters. Pebblecrusher is the only one who presents any real threat, as long you knock the mages off before one can get a confusion off. Any halfway decent hasted fighter should be able to handle him though. Just keep a couple heal potions handy in case. IMPORTANT: Make sure you kill the thief early, before he runs away. He's got a ring of invisibility on him (one of the most useful items in the game imo). Detect invis or truesight helps here. Or have one of your archers ding him while he's rendered unconscious via the stinking cloud. [ 09-17-2002, 08:21 PM: Message edited by: Lharae ]

Just web the entire room 3 times, then summon as many spiders as you can, set them on the mage and his familiar. Then Web the room a few more times, maybe throw in a greater malison to make them more effective, wait for them all to die. With web, the thief can't run, so you get to kill him/gra his nice ring.
On another note, are there any other rings of invisibility, besides the one on the lich behind the secret door?

Well, I certainly advise you NOT to take them on the first time you can get to them (i.e. when Imoen has just been 'kidnapped'). Better wait 'til you've gained a couple of levels, because these guys can be pretty irritating for a low-level party.
And I second the thing about the thief. Try and kill him before he wanders off, because the Ring of Invisibility is very usefull (and if not used, you can sell for at least SOME money )
