I just noticed that one of my LCD screen has a problem.
It look like screen burn, but it can't be. The right side of the screen from top to bottom and about half an inch wide, is paler than the rest of the screen. I think this is new, as I just noticed it. The computer has no background, just the plain blue you get when you set it at none, so nothing from behind can have burned it. I'm suspecting it might have something to do with the screen's lightning. LCD usually have lights on the side, so maybe the light messed something up, but I never heard of this. Anyone has any ideas of what's the problem and if it can be fixed? [ 11-09-2006, 03:03 PM: Message edited by: Luvian ]

Maybe a loose connection inside? Unlike a CRT, you can poke around inside an LCD without electrocuting yourself. Make sure you're grounded for static, and it's unplugged. Opening it will void the warranty.
I install touch sensors in LCDs for a living, so I've seen this a few times. Since I'm working on new units, if it's not a loose or bad connector, we just ship 'em back for warranty replacement. On the NEC units I deal with, there are 2 pair of wires from the power supply to the LCD itself. I've seen those plugs inserted upside-down. Sometimes they work ok that way, usually they fail right away. If you've got another LCD to compare it to you can check that.

Well it's not "new" it's probably at least 6 months old. It worked fine before.
The strange thing is that today the problem isn't there. I'd say the crystals are probably melting from the heat of the light after too long sessions, if it didn't sound so strange. |

SyncMaster 920Nx by Samsung. I googled it, but I couldn't find anything related to this.
Edit: It just came back, maybe a little fainter than last time. [ 11-09-2006, 03:30 PM: Message edited by: Luvian ] |

I've noticed with any monitor I've had, regular and LCD, that if you have something magnetic near it, it will lighten the side of the screen, or change the colors. Do you have another monitor, or a TV, or a radio, or speakers, etc. near it? Just a thought is all. Hope you can figure it out!

It is probably a heat related fault, as you suspect. Especially if the monitor looks fine on startup but blurs later in the day after being on for a while. If you have access to another monitor, I suggest swapping it and seeing if your problem goes away.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but I think the monitor is failing/faulty. The good news is since everyone is going to these expensive LCD's,,the CRT type monitors have dropped in price. HTH
