Dutch Politicians Want Bestiality Banned

AMSTERDAM (Reuters) - Two Dutch political parties called Wednesday for laws prohibiting sex with animals after a man suspected of having sex with a pony was set free.
Wearing nothing but a T-shirt, the man was arrested by police in Utrecht Monday after the pony's owner caught him by surprise in his stable.

"He was caught in the stable, busy with the pony, and was arrested for animal mistreatment," Mary Hallebeek, a prosecution spokeswoman said.

The prosecutor set him free because there was no evidence of a crime. Dutch law does not prohibit bestiality.

"There were no wounds or traces of violence. The man may have had sex with the animal, but there is no article in law which says this is liable to punishment," Hallebeek said.

Both List Pim Fortuyn and the Socialist Party called for an amendment to the penal code to make bestiality punishable.

"Sex with an animal is a far-reaching infringement of its physical integrity and the animal can never consent to it. It is pure maltreatment and should therefore be punishable," LPF member Joost Eerdmans said in parliament.

It is, but only in cases where there is physical damage to the animal. When the animal is not physically hurt by the abuse (as can be the case with horses) it's not a punishable offence yet.

IM very humble (yeah, right) O, animals cannot consent and any sexual contact with them should be punished.

I know of a website regarding a German Shepherd in Europe (Germany?)that was bequested a small fortune by its deceased owner. The money, earmarked for giving the Shepherd pleasure for the rest of his days, is being used to pay 2 male and 2 female models to "caretake" the dog, and their "caretaking" includes performing certain sex acts on/with the dog. I didn't look to far into specifics, but let's just say I was absolutely revolted.

Well, yes, that's the point they're making in demanding the law to be changed: it's not the abuse and any possible resulting physical damage that should make the difference, but the fact that the animal can never consent and therefore it should be made illegal in all cases, even if there is no demonstrable damage done. And I agree with that.
