I will be moving soon and for a while will not have a cable or satellite TV hooked up. I will therefore be trying to get over the air digital broadcast. I have a Samsung T2082 which says in the manual that it can receive Digital signals (but converts them to standard signal for viewing). I take it that this means that I do not need to buy one of those converter boxes like the government was giving vouchers for last year. Yes? Also...I take it that although this thing assumably receives the signals due to an internal converter, that it still needs a digital antenna? That I do not have. Can anyone confirm these questions and also recommend a digital antenna if one is needed? Gracias.

Yes, in order to receive the digital signal you need a digital antenna. An analog antenna will not receive the digital signal. As for the converter box, it sound like you won't need it. And, its more efficient to try without the box first then get it if you need it, rather than getting the box only to find you don't need it and have to go back out to return it.

Any antenna will do. My digital TV in the
living room uses a 4-foot piece of wire. But the TV stations are within sight of me. The TV in my kitchen uses ordinary 'rabbit-ears'. Weak signals might require a more powerful antenna. But there is no such thing as a 'Digital Antenna'. Digital TV's generally require a stronger signal, that is all. When a digital TV signal goes weak the entire picture completely disappears, unlike an analog TV where the picture simply gets 'Snowy'. |
