I'm watching the news about the attacks as I post this, I guess we'll see what the effects of this will be and whether it was the right choice soon, I just hope that the civilians in Afghanistan escape this conflict mostly unscathed.

I'm watching CNN too. We are bombing quite a lot, some are saying that we are hitting civilian houses too, but I don't know if that is true or not, I sure hope NOT. Anybody see that Bin Laden footage? Was obviously pre-recorded cause it was daylight when they aired it. Too bad, cause I would have liked to have seen him taken away in chains!!!

Apparently there has already been a village hit 'by mistake'. I wonder how many innocents are dead already amongst rubble? I wonder how many children have been orphaned?

Think about the town where you live. What would be considered a 'military target'? Usually busy areas such as airports, docks and ports. What is being done is a complete travesty. Thinking about those civilians who are already undoubtedly dying upsets me every bit as much as September 11th did. Are their lives worth less than those of Americans?

I agree Epona, if the U.S. ends up killing innocent people, it's doing the same thing as the terrorists. And I have to think that the terrorists that the U.S. are after are all long gone from any potential bombing targets. I can kind of see why they took out the airports from a strategic perspective, but don't know, it being 9:00pm at the time, if civilians were there. I am totally with the U.S. when it comes to going after the terrorists themselves, to stop them from further harming not only the U.S., but the entire world as well. And I love my country, I just wish there was another way to solve this terrorist problem. But, then again, when I try to think what other options there are, I can't come up with one thing. What else is the U.S. to do really? I dunno, I just wish all this wasn't happening...

This is still the very early hours of an operation you can't be sure about anything you hear.

The difference Epona is that we warned them repeatedly.
We do not knowingly target civilians.
We are trying to keep the death toll to a MINIMUM.
The reports say that at least 50% of the civilian population had
left the cities before any of this even started.
We are after the Taliban and Bin Laden, not the people of Afghanistan.

The alternative is to do nothing. To sit here and let them bomb buildings, blow up who ever they want, when ever they want. We can't do that. We can't bend over to every jerk-off with a grudge or a hatred of us. Not when they target our civilians on purpose. Intending to kill as many as they can.

I don't like this anymore than you Epona. Honestly I wish with all my heart that this was a bad dream. But it isn't. I don't want to see innocents die. But what are we to do? How are we to do it? What can we do that we aren't already doing? We didn't ask for them to start this. We didn't ask for this. We wanted to live in peace. We trusted that they did too. But they don't. They had ample warning. We as freedom loving people have to defend ourselves.

This is a military operation. Collateral damage has to be expected. You can't blow up a building with a 2000 lb bomb and expect no damage to other structures. We are using the most acurate weapons in the world. We are trying
to have minimal collateral damage.

I pray to god that this ends soon, that he look out for those in harms way, that in the end we all find the peace we so want.

Just wondering! Rumsfeld said in a statement to reporters that were very few highly important targets in Afghanistan, so why are we still bombing. Did I hear this incorrectly? Just wondering!
