Well, a few months ago I enrolled in a diving class. Now that I think about it wasn't the smartest thing for me to do. I can't swim that well, and I've never been a huge fan of water. I was more or less pushed into it. At first everything went fine. The text stuff was easy, the pool stuff was easy, and then I realized there was no way i'd float for ten minutes. After I figured that out we went into the ocean water. I'll admit it was beautiful down there, but the beauty was stolen away since I got what is called a Co2 headache. (You get them when you don't breathe enough, and they hurt!) To make matters worse I had to wait another month because I had to get a dive physical. Seems you must have one if you had asthma before. Then the doctor tells me there is just some *slight* irritation in my ear drum. Now i'm currently debating whether to finish, get qualified, and just not dive, or drop the entire thing. Any of you know you had a chance to do something, and kicked yourself when you didn't?

As to the last question, haven't we all?

Do you live near anywhere where you could dive frequently? I got my diving certification in South Dakota sometime around 1991 (deep water dive in a reservoir in November, brrr), and only dived once since, in the Bahamas. I didn't have enough hours in deep water to qualify for the dive to a sunken ship, but got to see the coral reef and fish therein.

I almost had a spate of claustrophobia while learning, as I'd once trained in a smokehouse (as firefighters do) and got stuck in a small space, and the mask reminded me of this. I did get over that feeling, and the rest was easy. Unfortunately, it's an expensive hobby, and if you're not likely to dive often enough to feel like the money spent on equipment is worth it, then getting your certification is only an ego boost to say "I did it". Of course, I'm glad I did, but I sure wish I lived somewhere where I could use my knowledge again!

You've got plenty of time left in life to always try this again, even if you choose not to do it now. The good thing about doing it later would be that you would be better prepared for all the asthma questions and other problems. Good luck, whatever you decide!

You know my dad decided for me. I'm going to dive. Thanks for letting me make my own decisions in life Dad! Oh well, I only have two things to do and than i'll quit. That'll be the end of that! I'll have the qualification and I can say goodbye to dive class. Yipee!

8 deep dives and I can tell you this
There is no such thing as gravity
Diving sucks and now I have a hearing
problem from what started as a *silght*
irritation in my ear drum, and a 17 inch long
scar on my leg from a little lemmon shark
that the instructor said don't worry they
can't hurt you. I wonder if anybody ever told
the lemmon shark that? Dump The Class--if you want!!

Say RBF, about diving headaches - does it feel like it´s rising from your neck and then it stings like mad in the back of your head? I ask because I sometimes get such aches when I´m singing(sometimes more like screaming, hardcore stuff) in my band. I must know how to prevent that.
