Have you tried: Start; Run (insert appropriate drive letter here)?

DVD's are encrypted and Windows is therefore unable to play them 'out of the box'.

You will need to purchase a DVD player (like PowerDVD). Your only other legal alternatives are to find an open source/shareware DVD player (google should help).

Usually though, this software is bundled with the DVD player when you buy it. Have you investigated any CD's that came with the drive?

If your problem is solely for games, then go to the control panel -> system and check your devices listed for any errors. Follow the prompts to ensure that the appropriate drivers are installed or downloaded. Again, check your local documentation and ensure you followed installation instructions. Any drivers needed would likely be bundled with the drive.

Do you mean that it doesn't start automatically, or that it doesn't work when you try to start it?

Oblivion sometimes does that on mine too...it and FEAR are the only discs to do it. What usually works (and for reasons that I cannot possibly comprehend) is putting in a different DVD (I use Act of War), and then putting back in the Oblivion DVD.

Can someone provide a link with some decoder software or player for free? Google delivered me some links but with spyware all over them.

I already have VideoLAN but that one doesn't seem to install any decoding stuff, it just works. This doesn't solve the problem for Oblivion DVD's for instance.

Well, Realplayer and Windows Media Player both seemed to do the job for me. I would warn though, about watching out for things that use codecs - apparently they can screw up Oblivion.

Neither, and all other DVDs I've tried to run have failed, too.

Okay, I'll try to be more precise: When I open my computer and double click the drive it shows that there are no files on the disc, and there's no autoplay when I insert the disc.

Does your drive play CD's ? if so the drive is ok, if not the drive is dead

Try removing the drive and putting into a friends PC
