Yesterday I orderred a 40 Gig Zen Touch so today I tried to clear up some room on my C: drive so I could fit more music to transfer. After deleting a bunch of large, unused programs, I noticed I still had only 1 gigabyte (the C: drive has about 20 total) of space left. I looked around to see if there was any data that I overlooked, 'cause I have been wondering for a while why I seemed to have almost no space on my computer at any given time. After a bit of searching I finally found the problem. My account on the computer had 2 folders! Apparently, when we reinstalled Windows several months ago, I believed my original folder (Michael) to have been lost with everything else. So I made a new folder named Michael [Last name]. So all the music files I thought were gone, and all the videos, I copied into the new folder. The old folder was deleted and I now have more space then I know what to do with.
Boy do I feel silly . |

Lucky you. My cousin accidentally reinstalled windows once. This mutilated something in the system pretty badly. Theres a bunch of user accounts no-one can acces. Windows doesn't believe they're there. And there are a couple of gigs of stuff there. The stuff isn't really needed, but I can't delete the damn things. And I've been too lazy to make a dos boot disc and learn the commands required to navigate to the files and remove them.

Yeah, when Lappy-de-Muerte got it's reinstall, it created a new "my documents" folder. Not that big a deal, as I make sure I know my file system like the back of my hand, but I keep most of my data in other folders, anyway. The C:\Lyle\ folder is a popular one, with many subfolders, and reinstalling Windows doesn't touch it. Granted, security isn't the best, keeping my data one directory deep, but I have my doubts I'll ever have to worry about that.

Just formating the HD and reinstalling everything can release alot of space. Currently i have almost no space and i cant find anything to delete, so i suspect its full of junk and temporary files etc. But since its Fat16 i want to try to convert it to Fat32 first.

You may want to invest in a program called Crap Cleaner. You can get it for free at its website, http://www.CCleaner.com. Works great for getting rid of a lot of temporary files that you cannot find on your own.
